Position description:

Calico is seeking a summer intern to join the Biochemistry group. To succeed, you will need to be an enthusiastic team player, detail-oriented, extremely organized and comfortable working on complex problems. In this position, you will conduct membrane protein purification and related biochemical activity examination. The successful candidate will work closely with members of the Biochemistry core lab on a membrane protein project. Responsibilities: 

• Membrane protein purification from both mammalian and bacterial systems 
• HEK293 cell line transient transfection, cell line maintenance and stable cell line generation
• In vitro biochemical protease activity test by FRET, WB, etc
• Protein construct design and site-directed mutagenesis

Position requirements:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in life science or related field
• Experience working with protein purification and biochemical assays
• Knowledge of membrane protein properties
• Detail-oriented and organized
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Experience reading and extracting information from scientific literature, especially for the biochemistry assays
• Self-motivated with a “can-do” attitude
• Flexible, able to respond quickly to shifting priorities and able to multitask
• Available to work in South San Francisco throughout June, July and August of 2020
