About the Planet Impact in STEM Program:

Are you looking to balance your computer science or coding education with real-world experience? In the fall of 2020, for the first time, Planet is piloting an internship program that seeks to benefit members of historically marginalized and underrepresented groups within STEM. In the 16 weeks that you’re with us, you’ll have access to Planet’s internal resources to help support you in having a great experience working remotely at Planet, whether you’re working in a part- or full-time capacity. You’ll join your team alongside a cohort of other fellows, while becoming a part of an inclusive culture that thrives on collaboration and launching new ideas. Location: Oakland, Detroit, Atlanta (Remote)

Duration: October 12 2020 - February 19, 2021

Pay rate: $25 an hour 


About the Role:

Planet’s Developer Relations team focuses on translating technical topics into accessible learning resources and tools for users of Planet’s APIs and satellite data. As a Developer Advocate Intern on this team, you should be passionate about both learning and teaching new technologies and skills.

This role is part software engineer, part technical writer and part educator: on any given day you may work on API documentation, develop sample code, contribute to open-source tools, create tutorials, or write a blog post. As a Developer Advocate Intern you will focus on helping users solve problems they may encounter while using Planet’s APIs and data products.

A successful Developer Advocate at Planet loves connecting with and working to enable software developers, data scientists and geospatial professionals: equipping them for success and providing the resources they need to best take advantage of Planet’s platform & data.


Impact You’ll Own:

  • Contribute to API documentation on Planet’s Developer Center
  • Contribute code and documentation to open source tools & libraries
  • Create beginner-friendly training materials: tutorials, guides, videos, etc.

What You Bring:

  • A fresh perspective to learning about satellite imagery and Planet’s platform
  • Curiosity about our planet and an interest in using space to help life on earth
  • Willingness to engage in proactive communication as a remote intern

You Should Have:

  • Experience writing code; Python & Jupyter Notebook familiarity a plus
  • Familiarity with git, GitHub and/or GitLab
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
