Position description:

Calico is seeking a summer intern to join the Mass Spectrometry Proteomics group. To succeed, you will need to be an enthusiastic team player, detail-oriented, extremely organized and comfortable working on complex problems.  This is a hands-on bench position, focused on sample preparation, method optimization, analysis of samples using liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry as well as data analysis. The successful candidate will work closely with members of the Proteomics group on collaborative projects, as well as be responsible for a small research project. Responsibilities: 

• Optimize and develop new sample preparation methods
• Analyze samples on HPLCs, mass spectrometers, and other bioanalytical equipment
• Data analysis of mass spectrometry data

Position requirements:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, in biochemistry, chemistry or related field 
• Experience working with biological samples and sample preparation 
• Experience with method development and optimization of biological samples
• Knowledge of basic statistics 
• Detail-oriented and organized
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Self-motivated with a “can-do” attitude
• Flexible, able to respond quickly to shifting priorities and able to multitask
• Available to work in South San Francisco throughout June, July and August of 2021 

Nice to have:

• Experience in sample preparation for proteomics
• Experience with immunoprecipitation
• Experience with automation and liquid handling robots
• Experience in method development for HPLC and/or mass spectrometers
