What is the Internal Communications Manager role?

We are looking for an Internal Communications Manager to join our growing team. In this role, you will play a critical role in both developing and executing internal communications strategies and materials. You will work closely with the CEO and internal stakeholders to directly manage our regular cadence of news and updates for employees, including executive comms, company programs, and operational updates. 

You blend strategic thinking with tactical execution beautifully, to ensure that employees are well-informed and understand how their work moves the company forward. You’re a natural project manager that can rapidly coordinate feedback across numerous internal stakeholders and build programs and content from the ground up.

What you'll be doing:

  • Help establish our internal voice and build our internal company narrative in a way that unites employees, strengthens our internal culture, and instills trust between employees and the company
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and leaders to create and communicate timely, precise, and engaging content for internal audiences, including emails, web content, newsletters, decks and more
  • Act as an advisor to the CEO and Leadership Team to provide recommendations to teams and stakeholders. This role encompasses highly cross-functional work, requiring buy-in, and socialization among various groups.
  • Guide storytelling efforts for key projects across the company and develop compelling campaigns and content to support new initiatives.
  • Make creative use of multiple communication channels - live meetings, newsletters, videos, audio messages to effectively keep the team engaged and informed.
  • Partner closely with the People team to drive people initiatives throughout the organization, including on-boarding, training, values reinforcement, and D&I programs.
  • Support and  guide internal communications programming on an as-needed basis, such as all hands meetings, employee events, guest speakers, etc.
  • Plan and manage special events such as all hands meetings, employee forums, employee recognition events, employee summits, etc. 
  • Reinforces company mission, strategy, values, and initiatives, to guide and influence employee awareness and strengthen employee understanding and engagement.
  • Develop and roll-out a program to track results and measure success within internal comms.

  • Intellectually curious and inspired to try new ways of working
  • Ability to couple strategy with empathy – get the message across in a comprehensible way and with a tone that resonates with employees
  • Writing pro: ability to develop compelling content for specific audiences that shows a deep understanding of messaging, tone and stakeholder needs, and also translates industry-speak into plain speak

Your background and skills:

  • 7+ years of communications, writing, and/or HR experience in a fast-paced environment
  • BA/BS in relevant field (marketing, communications, etc.), MA/MS a big plus!
  • Excellent judgement and people skills, and the ability to anticipate and preempt problems before they occur
  • The ability to write, edit, and publish content quickly for a variety of internal audiences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and polished presentation abilities
  • Experience managing and producing internal events 
  • Experience working with leaders and building consensus among multiple internal stakeholders
  • Brilliant short and long form writing and storytelling skills, with an ability to generate and execute "breakout" ideas.
  • Ability to capture the authentic voice of leadership in written communications and help shape the internal communications narrative effectively via presentations, scripts, or emails.
  • Can quickly grasp information across a variety of disciplines and subsequently develop clear communications with minimal guidance.
  • Confidence and ability to effectively lead, manage, and execute multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced, collaborative, deadline-oriented environment.
