About Shift:

We believe car buying should be fun, fair, and accessible to everyone. We’ve set out to transform an industry, using technology to bring transparency and convenience to the car buying process.

And we aren’t stopping there. We seek to bring that same openness and simplicity to car ownership too, with payments, maintenance, and insurance in one easy app. At Shift, we’re building the tools that empower people to buy, own, and sell the cars that make life go.

About the role:

Shift is looking for an experienced Product Manager to take on a crucial role to help us transform the way people buy and sell cars. This is a rare opportunity to impact the way Shift’s Internal Operations and Field teams work, which has a direct impact on our business and the customer’s experience. The problems you’ll solve here will be the new normal 10 years from now. As a Product Manager for this space, you will be able to exercise your experience and creativity to develop a new bar for operational efficiency. This is an inherently cross-functional and complex product area that intersects with virtually every facet of our business.

What you'll do:

  • You will work with leaders across the company and define the roadmap for continuous improvement of Shift’s operational e-commerce experience for our customers.
  • You will become an expert in our various internal processes and leverage direct user research, industry best practices, quantitative testing, and insights from sales and customer support.
  • You’ll manage the prioritization for your product area, including immediate work and long-term bets to realize your strategic vision.
  • You’ll write feature requirements, and work closely with design and engineering to consistently deliver high-quality, high-impact products.
  • You will define and monitor metrics, measuring and evangelizing the performance of your products. You will make strategic decisions based on data.

What we ask for:

  • You have 3-5 years of experience in product management shipping core functionality as part of a top-performing consumer software product organization.
  • You have experience working with UX designers, and software engineers, managing sprints and creating the day-to-day deliverables of a Product Manager including Product Briefs, user stories and strategic roadmaps.
  • You have experience working with design teams and optimizing experiences in applications.
  • You've collaborated closely with technical and non-technical team members, and with a demonstrable ability to work effectively across teams.
  • Proven ability to identify, analyze, and solve ambiguous problems, showing a track record of making business decisions using relevant data and insights.
  • You have a strong acumen for written and verbal communication.
  • You understand basic API and integrated software solutions.
  • Experience with self-serve and queryable analytics tools such as Amplitude, Google Analytics, Looker and Periscope.
  • You have learned how and when to leverage qualitative and quantitative experimentation, and you’re adept at analyzing results from these experiments.
  • Strong strategic aptitude; proven ability to define a winning business strategy and product roadmap and gain buy-in from stakeholders at all levels.

Nice to have:

  • You have built products for a two-sided marketplace.
  • You have built and managed B2B, B2B2C, and/or internal tooling products
  • You have experience with CRMs and workflow management tools.
  • You have driven “build vs buy” decisions, and implemented both.
  • You have experience working at a startup, incubator or new business within a larger company.
  • You are passionate about great customer experiences.
  • You have one of the following: MS in a technical discipline, MBA, or equivalent experience.

On diversity

Our company depends on balance and equality — between buyers and sellers, among employees, and in our relationships with customers.

Our mission to evolve car ownership and transform an industry is a challenging one. It can only be achieved by a team of diverse problem-solvers — engineers, designers, business people — from the same broad demographics as our customers.

Why apply?

At Shift, we’re all about growth - which means people who are eager to grow, who are ready to roll up their sleeves and learn new things. We were founded by a scrappy group of visionaries who were by no means “car experts” - so we don’t expect you to be one, either! We’ll take the open-minded go-getter over the pure subject matter expert any day. In that spirit, we also care about building a diverse and inclusive workplace and company. To put it simply, cars are meant for everyone, so we believe our company should be, too. We never discriminate against any candidate on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, race, ethnicity, religion, color, national origin, marital status, veteran status or disability status. We welcome and encourage people of all backgrounds and walks of life to apply, even if you’re unsure if you meet all the requirements. (Even if this particular role isn’t the right fit, chances are we will have the right one soon!)

Why join now?

Having gone public in October 2020, we are at the beginning of our journey and hope you join us for the ride! Shift is a leading end-to-end auto e-commerce platform transforming the used car industry with a technology-driven, hassle-free customer experience. Shift’s mission is to make buying or selling a used car fun, fair, and accessible to everyone. We provide comprehensive, digital solutions throughout the car ownership lifecycle: finding the right car, having a test drive brought to you before buying the car, a seamless digitally-driven purchase transaction including financing and vehicle protection products, an efficient, digital trade-in/sale transaction, and a vision to provide high-value support services during car ownership.
