The Associate Accountant is responsible for maintaining, preparing and reconciling financial data in an accurate and timely manner for month and quarter end financial close.  The position will be responsible for various accounting areas including corporate cash, credit card transactions, escheatment, and prepaid expenses. Monthly tasks will include verification of financial records and transactions, preparation of journal entries, reconciliation of accounts, and collaboration with the business and other accounting teams. This position will be a member of the corporate accounting team, reporting to the Director of General Ledger and Consolidations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, an enthusiastic quick learner, and a problem solver with a positive attitude. 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage cash accounts, including posting monthly cash transactions, uploading daily cashed checks, reconciling cash accounts, and investigating and resolving any discrepancies or issues.
  • Reconcile credit card and other payment transactions from e-commerce websites, and apply the related cash receipts through journal entries.  Investigate and resolve any discrepancies or issues identified.
  • Manage prepaid expense accounts by reviewing transactions to ensure they are in compliance with the Company’s prepaid policy, ensuring amortization period is accurate based on supporting documents, posting monthly amortization, reconciling prepaid expense accounts, and assisting AP team with account coding for prepayments, as necessary.
  • Manage escheatment process for US entities by obtaining data for escheatable items from applicable parties within the organization, summarizing information obtained, and remitting information to third party.
  • Assist with preparing journal entries for miscellaneous transactions requiring account reclassification during monthly financial close.
  • Prepare journal entry and account reconciliation for monthly sales commission accrual, shares services accrual, and property tax accrual.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls.
  • Assist with internal and external financial audits through process walkthroughs, and providing support for audit requests.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy of work.
  • Self-starter who takes the initiative to start and complete assignments without direct supervision. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
  • Versed in SAP a plus.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent work experience required.
  • 0-1 years of related accounting or public accounting experience.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA designation is a plus.
