As an Associate Real Estate Counsel, you will be part of the Legal organization and the right hand to our Director of Legal. You will serve as a partner to the rest of the company, advising on our overall legal and real estate strategy, and overseeing key deals. You’ll be challenged with constantly evolving work as the second hire on the team.

Challenge 

  • Partner with and provide strategic legal advice to multiple functions across the org, primarily supporting Real Estate and as time permits, Real Estate, Finance, Engineering, Sales, and more
  • Advise senior leadership regarding legal issues, identify risks and opportunities, and provide input on best practices across the business
  • Draft, review, and negotiate lease agreements and other documents to support business transactions (including LOIs, SNDAs, tenant estoppels, vendor services agreements, financing documents, etc.)
  • Develop construction agreement library and assist operations team in negotiations with various contractors and sub-contractors, with the help of outside counsel
  • Oversee and structure various real estate agreements and transactions, across a rapidly growing portfolio (including purchase and sale agreements and management contracts, etc.).
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on all regulatory matters impacting Lyric and its service offerings
  • Develop and maintain relationships with various outside counsel

Foundation

  • J.D. degree and good standing of a recognized U.S. bar (preferably California or New York), and if not barred in California, the ability to obtain registered in-house counsel status
  • 5+ years of relevant legal experience (mix of in-house and major law firm experience preferred) 
  • Broad knowledge of corporate law, real estate law, with significant commercial leasing experience, and related areas
  • You have strong business acumen and the ability to interface with all levels of management
  • You have impeccable negotiations skills and thrive in high pressure situations

Interview

  • Discovery call with talent partner to describe the role and answer initial queries
  • Conversation with the Director of Legal to calibrate around alignment of role to candidate’s desired career path, as well as cultural compatibility.
  • In person meeting with key stakeholders from across the org for an in-depth discussion of your experience and the role.
