About Calm

We have a simple mission at Calm: To make the world a happier and healthier place.

The heart of Calm is digital but the brand is expanding offline into a variety of products and services that bring more peace, clarity and perspective into people’s busy lives. We are building Calm into the Nike of the Mind. We believe Calm can become one of the most valuable and meaningful brands in the world.

Over 75 Million people have downloaded the app and we are growing by 100,000 new downloads a day. The company is profitable and headquartered in San Francisco, CA.

Calm was co-founded by Alex Tew (Million Dollar Homepage) and Michael Acton Smith (Mind Candy, Moshi Monsters, Firebox).

Mission:

Calm’s content library and the languages in which such content is offered are expanding along with the growing number of high quality opportunities to gain brand exposure. Thus, the corresponding number of contracts is climbing and the nature of the branding relationships is growing more complex. We’re building a world class Legal team to help the company scale.

About the Role:

This leader will routinely interact with the senior executive team and will be required to work cross-functionally both inside and outside the legal department.

Outcomes:

  • Develop efficient processes and templates to help preserve important rights and protections for the company, such as common data use provisions and reasonable boundaries for liabilities
  • Support our templates by excellent fallback provisions and explanations (playbook) that includes a set of talking points to help the sales team explain how the provisions of the agreement interact with the service the customer is purchasing
  • Provide direction and guidance to other attorneys and leaders in the organization on the provision of day-to-day commercial legal counseling
  • Ensure alignment of legal advice and consistency across all stakeholders
  • Assist the General Counsel on legal team structure, vision and goals, including career development and retention planning for other attorneys

  • Up-to-date on U.S. and international laws and regulations dealing with privacy, data security, consumer protection and marketing.
  • A highly motivated self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys being part of multiple teams and can be sensitive to multiple priorities
