The Challenge
At Digit, we are on a mission to make financial health effortless for everyone. We are building the world’s first intelligent bank account to help millions of American consumers become financially healthy. Our challenge is clear: managing personal finances is hard. As of 2019, 70% of Americans struggle with at least one aspect of financial stability and over 40% don’t have $400 in their savings account. We believe automation is our path to delivering our mission, and we are working towards it every day.
We have a collaborative, diverse, and supportive culture and we look for people who are curious, ambitious, and mission-driven. If you're passionate about making an impact and helping real people every day we're excited to meet you!
The Role
We are looking for an experienced compliance manager to help build out and execute our neobanking compliance program. In this role you will use your expertise to assess, identify and mitigate compliance risk in our product development, onboarding, and user experience areas. Although the focus of the role is on these areas, you will have an impact across the entire enterprise in building a best-in-class compliance management system. You’ll be a partner to product managers, a risk assessor, a trusted advisor, and a jack-of-all trades who can learn any new skill. This role reports to our Compliance Lead.
What You’ll Do:
You’ll wake up and go to work (remotely or otherwise) with people who are aligned in our mission. You will get a chance to help shape a compliance department. As we build new products, you’ll build some of it from the ground up. You’ll have voice and ownership. You’ll have a safety net when you need it, but you’ll also be able to use your past experience to spread your wings and build new things. You’ll learn a ton and join a respectful, collegial, engaging, and welcoming team that cares about responsible innovation.
Who You Are:
Must-haves:

  • Experience at a regulated company (6 years minimum) and know at least 4 of 7 things pretty well: (1) Bank Regulatory (AML/Reg E/Disputes/GLBA/Lending/ESIGN/UDAAP/FCRA), (2) Money Movement (ACH, RTP, credit card networks, NACHA, fraud), (3) Risk and Control Assessments, (4) Compliance Testing methodologies, (5) Technology (APIs, oAuth, SaaS, mobile apps, product development, information security, data storage and usage, general understanding of “full stack”), (6) marketing review (UDAAP, working with testimonials, IP issues), (7) Regulatory Relations.
  • This role involves influencing across departments, so knowing how to build trust and be a problem-solver (and come across as a problem-solver) is critical.
  • You’ve partnered with Product before, hopefully by embedding in the team.
  • You care about financial health, as it’s the core of what we do.
  • You’re curious, like a cat. Maybe your friends even call you “Whiskers.” You hear about something you don’t know and you feel a need to learn it. You don’t need to know everything, but you will need to know how to use your resources (regulatory guidance, your network, Slack, journals, books, Bing, law firms) to find the answer to just about any question.
  • You can take something complex and make it simple. You know how to pause, take a breath, and translate from regulatory jargon (e.g., consumer/customer and all that alphabet soup) to something the audience in front of you will grasp.

Now for the optional stuff.

  • You’ve worked with a Compliance department before and helped them structure policies or deal with complex issues.
  • You’ve worked for a Regulator (FTC, CFPB, FINRA, OCC, etc.), a bank or, even better, at a fin-tech doing regulatory advisory work.
  • You’ve conducted company trainings and/or create slides without a ton of long bullet points.
  • You’ve been involved in an audit and/or preparing for one (e.g., with a bank partner).
  • Experience with implementing new business initiatives as a compliance expert (develop risk assessments and ratings, internal controls, process flows, and desktop procedures).
  • If you listen to any of the Legal podcasts (e.g., Firmly Held, Frolic and Detour, The Attractive Nuisance, Bob Loblaw’s Law Blog, Mildly Appealing), huge bonus. (None of those are real.)

  • Daily lunch stipend
