About this Opportunity
Zumper is looking for a Deputy General Counsel to join our legal team. Under the direction of our General Counsel, you will play a key leadership role in a broad range of legal matters. You will work closely with teams across the organization and will have a direct impact on the company as we continue to grow the business.
This role requires an energetic team player, well-seasoned in your career, who can provide counseling on a wide variety of legal and business issues, and translate business needs into key legal protections. This is a phenomenal opportunity for an attorney who wants to wear many hats and manage a breadth of legal issues at a fast-paced startup.
What You Will Do

  • Corporate governance (lead financing transactions, M&A, equity incentive plans, board and stockholder matters)
  • Litigation (provide advice to mitigate business risk)
  • Commercial transactions (draft, negotiate and structure inbound and outbound contracts, including sales agreements, consulting agreements, technology licensing agreements and NDAs and work on keeping our product T&Cs updated with new developments)
  • Privacy and data security (ensure compliance with various data security and privacy laws such as CCPA, keep our privacy policy updated and counsel on marketing and advertising matters)
  • Employment (partner with HR on day-to-day employment matters, including improvements to applicable policies, templates, processes and procedures)
  • Intellectual property (help defend and prosecute our registered IP, evaluate open source procedures and other IP related work)
  • Product counseling (work closely on new products that require creative legal guidance and balance risk versus reward)


Who You Are

  • You graduated with a JD from a top law school and 10+ years relevant experience, including 5+ years at a premier Amlaw 100 law firm and prior in-house experience
  • An active member in CA or NY State Bar
  • Demonstrable subject matter expertise in at least two areas of law
  • Great communicator (verbal, written and interpersonal) and negotiator - You have excellent analytical skills and sound judgment
  • Able to work well with a small tightly-knit team and can interact effectively across all employee levels
  • Willing to seek leadership and responsibility and work autonomously
  • Can balance multiple projects simultaneously with strong follow up
