Our mission is to provide every human on Earth with instant access to vital medical supplies. Join Zipline and help us make this a reality for billions of people.

About You and The Role

Zipline is searching for a well-rounded lawyer to play a key role leading global risk management, regulatory and legal compliance, and dispute resolution on Zipline’s legal team. You also will take leadership scaling Zipline’s legal function around the world under the direct supervision of Zipline’s Deputy General Counsel for Compliance, Regulatory, and Policy.

A wide variety of growth paths for this role exist within Zipline depending on your skill set and Zipline’s business needs. These paths include growing into Zipline’s chief compliance officer for a region or line of business; developing multi-jurisdictional expertise in global legal regimes such as import/export, anti-bribery and corruption, and foreign investment requirements; or taking on responsibility for dense regulatory regimes such as healthcare, land use, or employment.

What You'll Do

  • Scale Zipline’s global programs and processes to comply with anti-corruption and anti-bribery legal regimes in the US and all countries where Zipline operates, requirements of the Committee on Foregin Investment in the United States, US Department of Commerce, and US Department of Defense
  • Advise Zipline lines of business on healthcare, data privacy and protection, and other regulatory regimes
  • Oversee Zipline’s existing portfolio of export control classifications and licenses and facilitate applications for new licenses in partnership with Zipline’s People and global operations teams
  • Design and implement processes for complying with public contracting regulations in the United States and other jurisdictions (e.g., FAR, etc.)
  • Wake up every day asking yourself what you can do to improve Zipline’s “culture of compliance” and to empower our lines of business to understand the rules of the road, operate ethically, and embody a strong “first line of defense” to spot problems
  • Partner with Zipline’s People Team to build engaging, practical, and clear legal and compliance training programs for team members around the world
  • Manage Zipline’s response to disputes, if/as needed, and represent Zipline before government regulators in the US and internationally
  • Pinch hit for members of the Legal team, helping to creatively and efficiently address  novel questions that come up each day across our global business

What You'll Bring

  • You are willing to get in the weeds and dive headfirst into whatever pressing issue or challenge is facing the business, regardless of familiarity or interest
  • You are adept at breaking complex, fuzzy, or sprawling legal questions into discrete components and distinguishing between high- and low-priority issues
  • You thrive translating legal rules and regulations into clear, practical, and actionable processes that business teams can understand and implement
  • You communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) and build strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • You have the confidence to make independent judgment calls with conviction -- and the instincts to recognize when issues require escalation or input from others
  • You bring legal acumen and common sense to spotting and managing risks
  • You are comfortable constructively speaking truth to power
  • You enjoy working with and learning from colleagues across a wide range of cultures, legal regimes, and professional backgrounds
  • You are organized and efficient with an ability to work independently, prioritize and follow through in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • You have the grit, resourcefulness, and resilience to thrive in novel, uncertain and constantly-changing business and regulatory environments
  • You believe deeply that access matters and that we can and will provide access to essential medical supplies for every person on the planet

What Else You Need to Know

  • JD Degree required
  • Member in good standing of at least one state bar
  • Relevant legal experience (at a top-tier law firm and/or in-house)
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
