About the Legal Team

As a Paralegal/Contract Manager, you will support the Legal team. Legal is run by our General Counsel/Corporate Secretary who works on contracts, licensing, regulatory matters, financing and board matters and with multiple outside counsels who support us on a variety of assignments. It is a small but mighty team which is continuing to grow. The team has decades of experience, but is always willing to learn new tricks of the trade. You will have the autonomy to suggest and implement new ideas to streamline processes. 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Responsible for (1) state lending license and authority to do business support, (2) routine contract management, preparation and negotiation; (3) Procurement support; and (4) for the day to day administrative support of the Varo Legal Department. 
  • State lending license and authority to do business support includes managing our state lending licenses and authority to do business filings to the extent we maintain state licenses and coordinate state license exams. 
  • Routine contract preparation and negotiation includes responsibility for non-disclosure agreements, contract amendments, orders and other routine or template based document reviews.
  •  Procurement support includes support for the administration of the vendor management program, RFP support and tools library maintenance.
  • Day-to-day administrative duties include independently responding to (1) state licensing tracking and renewals; (2) supporting the Contracts process by tracking and archiving agreements, (3) supporting data gathering efforts related to regulatory inquiries; (4) assisting with the preparation of board materials and investor updates; (5) managing the relationships with third parties who support the Legal function, such as SW licenses; (6) coordinating subpoenas and other government requests and (7) miscellaneous support as needed, including managing shareholder communications.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES THAT'LL HELP YOU BE GREAT

  • Four year degree with business or financial related degree required. Paralegal certificate or JD preferred.
  • Several years working in a paralegal/legal, contracts or procurement role.
  • Candidate must have strong attention to detail and the proven ability to manage competing priorities effectively.

  • We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, excellent written and verbal communications and firm project management skills. Comfort with reading, ingesting and summarizing business contracts is necessary as a core skill. The ideal candidate will also have a strong aptitude for analytics, a proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and will also have experience in supporting the implementation of tools that support the Legal or Procurement function (such as CLM and Procure to Pay).
