At Plaid, we work at the intersection of technology and finance on disruptive innovations that require creative and pragmatic legal solutions. We deal with novel issues every day that require cross-functional work across Plaid’s legal, risk, product, engineering, and business teams. We’re looking for a thoughtful and strategic lawyer to join our growing legal team as a Regulatory Counsel. 

Based in San Francisco, in this role you will be primarily responsible for understanding and interpreting laws and regulations applicable to Plaid’s business, and providing proactive legal advice on regulatory issues. We’re looking for a collaborative team member with strong problem-solving skills who can manage multiple, high priority projects in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

What excites you:

  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to develop legal solutions to complex business challenges
  • Advising risk, product, engineering, and business teams on relevant federal and state consumer financial services laws
  • Staying abreast of regulatory and policy developments relevant to Plaid’s products and services, as well as fintech generally
  • Drafting policies and procedures to maintain compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Reviewing and monitoring Plaid’s products and services for regulatory compliance

What excites us:

  • J.D. degree from an accredited school, with 5+ years of relevant legal experience at a top law firm, government agency, or in-house legal department 
  • Extensive knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations relating to consumer protection, consumer financial services, and privacy, including the Consumer Financial Protection Act, Section 5 of the FTC Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, the Electronic Fund Transfer Act, Regulation E, and the Fair Credit Reporting Act
  • Eager to learn about new and emerging technologies
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Good sense of humor
  • Admitted to the California Bar in good standing, or eligible to register as in-house counsel with the California Bar
  • Excitement for Plaid’s mission and fintech
