Senior Counsel, Music Licensing
Zoom is looking for an exceptional transactional attorney, with significant experience drafting and negotiating complex digital music licenses, to help build it’s emerging Content Licensing team. This role will be instrumental in defining and developing Zoom’s strategic music licensing efforts, by acquiring rights from record companies, aggregators, music publishers and performing rights and collective management organizations, and assisting with other music-related initiatives of key internal stakeholders. This position requires strong cross-functional acumen, an entrepreneurial mindset to forge new paths for music licensing, and the perfect blend of business and legal critical thinking. Although headquartered in San Jose, CA the role is remote and candidate can be located anywhere in the US.
In this role, you will:
Help devise a global music licensing strategy and close deals necessary to scale music license coverage both domestically and abroad
Analyze, review, draft and negotiate music-related agreements to support ongoing and evolving music needs throughout the business (e.g. partnerships, marketing, distribution, etc.)
Advise on music copyright-related intellectual property rights issues
Provide pragmatic, business-focused, solution-oriented legal advice and guidance to internal stakeholders with regard to business and legal risks and company policies
Coordinate with Product and Engineering teams in connection with product developments and innovations related to music usage
Support and advise on the development of a music operations team
You must have:
7+- years of experience negotiating and drafting complex digital music rights deals for digital service providers and / or UGC platforms
JD and membership in at least one state bar
Subject matter expertise with a deep and broad understanding of the digital music rights landscape, experience with international rights holders a plus
Exceptional business judgment, communication and interpersonal skills
Experience working collaboratively and cross-functionally in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Entrepreneurial mindset, flexible, self-starting, hard-working
Excellent drafting, negotiation and organizational skills, with an ability to handle a substantial volume of transactions simultaneously and prioritize among multiple urgent projects
Strategic thinker with a pragmatic, creative, risk-based approach to problem-solving
