Role Overview
Skillz is looking for a strong storyteller to build broad awareness for our business, our technology, and our games. The Corporate Communications Manager will be responsible for proactive and reactive media relations and messaging to support the company and its leaders. Working with IR, Business Development, Developer relations and Customer Advocacy, this experienced communications pro will develop plans, messaging and materials to help build Skillz profile with key audiences in the tech, gaming, and business press. This role will also support the team with employee communications and crisis management issues as needed.The ideal candidate has agency or comparable in-house experience, strong media relationships, great instincts and is comfortable working under pressure, and on tight deadlines. Needs to be able to easily build trust with stakeholders, and work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment to drive ROI.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic PR plans and tell proactive stories to help build Skillz brand
• Build and maintain relationships with key tech and business reporters
• Act as a trusted partner to peers and executives
• Secure and support speaking opportunities for company executives
• Craft collateral and press materials needed to deliver results
• Help to manage company response in the event of crises, working quickly and effectively
• Assist with internal comms initiatives as needed 

 Experience

• Approximately 5+ years of experience working in public relations or journalism 
• Strong, established relationships with a broad range of media and outlets
• Excellent written and oral communication skills 
• Comfort acting as a company spokesperson
• Experience at a high-growth technology company or startup
