OUR TEAM 

Kinship is looking for an experienced External Comms and Public Relations Director, reporting to the CMO.  This role is responsible for the end-to-end external comms and PR strategy and execution.  The role will collaborate closely with the executive and business leadership to establish these strategies and tactical plans. 

We look for the role holder to drive the agenda as well as being hands-on, self starting and detail-oriented.  In the broader marketing team we have resources in design, internal comms, email marketing, social media etc that will be key collaborators.

The role will operate within the context of Mars Inc, developing where appropriate joined up communications plans and working with the Mars Petcare Corporate Affairs teams.  It should though lead like a director within a tech start-up with experience in hyper-fast growth.

HOW YOU’LL HELP EVERYONE PET PARENT LIKE A PRO

  • Lead the development and execution of the end-to-end External Comms and PR Strategy for a corporate/parent company
  • Lead development and execution of Executive Visibility strategy including thought leadership, speaking opportunities and award submissions
  • Manage PR agency and support earned media outreach, maintaining local and national media contacts with a focus on tech/business (eg. TechCrunch, FastCo, Inc., The Information,etc), national broadcast (CNBC, Bloomberg, MSNBC, etc)
  • Manage corporate and President digital portfolio/social media
  • Help  evolve and amplify CSR strategy 
  • Provide ongoing strategic counsel to Leadership on communicating company reputation, performance, public announcements, and more
  • Develop, edit, and distribute communications materials including press releases, internal story alerts, corporate statements, corporate materials, presentations, and speeches.
  • Lead issues and crisis communications for our brands, ensuring compliance with Mars standards
  • Represent Kinship as company spokesperson as needed
  • Partner with the Talent team to develop and execute an Employer of Choice strategy
  • Support strategy and planning for Kinship corporate reputation and employment brand programs
  • Collaborate with Internal Communications on Internal storytelling
  • Budget management of external comms and PR

  • Excellent written and creative writing skills for all external communications.

Functional required Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in communications, public relations 
  • Extensive network of connections in media/press
  • Strong communications skills, verbal and written
  • Experience leveraging owned social and external social networks (e.g. Glassdoor, BuiltIn, etc) to grow reputation and attract positive attention
  • Experience in high growth SaaS business and/or  digital/online marketplace, digital commerce, data as a service. 
  • Event PR experience is advantageous

Our San Francisco office is located in the Financial District, a quick walk from the Ferry Building, Union Square, and Salesforce Park. Convenient to BART(1 block from Montgomery Station), Muni, ferries, and cable cars. Great local restaurants, gyms, shopping, and bars nearby!
