ABOUT THE DIRECTOR OF PRODUCT MARKETING ROLE

We’re looking for a strategic, innovative and insight-driven product marketing leader, motivated by brands that are tearing down barriers and using technology to reinvent industries.

This position will report to the Chief Brand Officer and will lead the team responsible for delivering the Varo brand strategy and driving rapid product adoption through the execution of strategic and comprehensive product marketing programs. This position champions our brand architecture and is directly responsible for all product positioning, verbal branding, key messages, launch and sustaining product campaigns; and consumer- and customer-facing product promotions and communications.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Strategy & Planning - bring the Varo brand strategy to life via innovative, insightful and culture-penetrating product positioning and campaigns. Proactively lead collaboration with product management GM’s (Retail Banking, Lending, Partnerships) to develop annual strategic product marketing plans for all products; and oversee the cross-functional tactical execution of those plans. Champion insight-driven product concepts; creative ideas and launch strategies. 

Proactively recommend and pursue research and studies that mine consumer product messaging insights; test and iterate on creative ideas to ensure relevance and impact. Maintain comprehensive competitive product positioning intel and be able to clearly define and execute Varo’s point of difference for each product. Maintain brand architecture and messaging hierarchies for each product, and educate and evangelize on the evolution for each.

Product launches - primary liaison to our product GM’s: early-stage collaboration to size and define target market; collaborate on product fit and concept; then work cross-functionally on consumer and customer product launch/updates outbound framework and campaigns. Accountable for on-time product campaign launches across full Varo product line. Routinely track and report on market impact of product launches and sustaining campaigns; and proactively pursue optimization. 

Product Messaging - this position owns the Varo content strategy and implementation for the Varo marketing web site; measured primarily by organic acquisition. Proactively oversee rolling updates to the site; report out on metrics and optimization.

  • Proven track record of leveraging consumer and competitive insights to define a “white space” and then forging a differentiated product positioning strategy

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably with a concentration in brand, advertising, marketing, or communications
  • Minimum of 10 years of successful product marketing at a consumer brand(s); start-up preferred
  • Top talent acquisition and coaching prowess
  • Proven success in developing and managing national product launches
  • Experience reporting on campaign performance and ROI
  • The ability to adapt on the fly to changing requirements in a competitively charged environment and be willing to try new things in order to drive execution that successfully differentiates our product among a vast number of competitors
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills 
  • The ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously across various audiences
  • Strong cross-group and cross-division collaboration skills 
  • The ability to think differently, challenge conventional wisdom, and drive new best practices
