Withum’s Exempt Organization and Employee Benefits Tax group provides support and guidance to Benefit Plans and other Exempt Organizations to succeed in a technology-driven world full of ever-changing rules and regulations. Withum believes that when you stand together for a common purpose, dreams for a better world become reality. Withum’s Employee Benefits Tax team has the experience and the knowledge to tackle compliance, governance and operational and financial hurdles that can help free up time and resources This group services a variety of employee benefit plans, including Health & Welfare Plans, Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution plans, as well as nonprofits including community-based organizations, public charities, private foundations, trade associations and educational institutions. 

This Supervior will work exclusively with Withum’s Exempt Organization and Employee Benefits Tax Group. You’ll be working with a team of renowned experts and thought leaders in the industry who are passionate about what they do! The ideal candidate will possess excellent Excel and tax return preparation skills and review experience with the ability and desire to grow and advance their career at Withum.

How You’ll Spend Your Time: 

  • Reviewing of annual employee benefit tax returns and unrelated business income tax returns for a large and diverse client base
  • Reviewing of relevant state income tax returns and annual state charitable registration forms 
  • Researching and resolving tax-exempt organization tax issues 
  • Reviewing Employee Benefit Plan Forms 5500, Exempt Organization returns such as Form 990, 990-PF and 990-T, C Corp., S Corp., Partnership income, fiduciary tax returns and individual returns as time permits 
  • Identifying and implementing tax planning opportunities   
  • Managing multiple engagements concurrently with various teams to efficiently meet client deadlines  
  • Conducting constructive discussions with team members on their evaluations and providing counsel accordingly  
  • Serving in professional development programs as an instructor or discussion leader 

 The Kinds of People We Want to Talk to Have Many of The Following: 

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting and CPA license, JD or a Master of Science in Taxation  
  • At least 5 years of prior experience working in the tax department of a public accounting, with experience leading multiple engagements and supervising staff  
  • Excellent analytical and technical tax skills  
  • Exceptional client service and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships  
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing projects in a rapidly growing, fast-paced, interactive, results-based team environment  
  • Strong leadership, training, and mentoring skills, coupled with excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills to represent the Firm well to client’s management  
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, project management skills, and strong attention to detail 

The compensation for this position will vary by location. In addition to the base compensation, Withum offers a competitive benefits package and bonus program (for eligible roles) based on individual and firm performance. Final offer amounts are based on multiple factors such as the specific role, hiring location, as well as the individual’s skills, experience, and qualifications. San Ramon ranges are from $95,000 - $155,000 annually
Columbia ranges are from $95,000 - $155,000 annually
