About the Legal Team

Varo’s Legal team is responsible for all things “legal” at Varo. This means that we support the business: by identifying and highlighting any legal risks, in interpreting law and providing compliance recommendations, conducting contract reviews and negotiations, support for licensing, Varo IP asset management, Varo Product reviews, drafting product disclosure, support for corporate financing rounds, managing shareholder communications, engaging directly with regulatory bodies, and more. We also manage our team of outside counsels, maintain a repository of all legal documents, and are responsible for Varo’s Privacy and other policies. In addition, Legal is responsible for the Community Reinvestment Act Strategic Plan.

Legal is run by our General Counsel who is also the Secretary for our Board of Directors. As a Community Reinvestment Act Officer, you will be joining a small but mighty team that will continue to grow, and you will report to the General Counsel. . The team has decades of experience, but is always willing to learn new tricks of the trade. You will have the autonomy to suggest new approaches to processes and lead the implementation of any new or improved processes. The work in Legal no matter what your role is varied and challenging.

About the Community Reinvestment Act Officer Role

We’re looking for a Community Reinvestment Act Officer who will lead the implementation and management of Varo Bank’s Community Reinvestment Act Strategic Plan. Varo’s Strategic Plan is novel in the industry and it will give the officer a unique opportunity to drive change and have a major impact on low and moderate income communities. 

What you'll do

• Set the direction and Implement the Strategic Plan by identifying opportunities for Varo and its employees to make a difference and support Varo’s mission.
• Build relationships with community groups in the Designated Assessment Areas and participate in organizations and events to increase the visibility of Varo Bank.
• Identify and implement programs in both SLC and in the Western Region of the US for Varo employees to engage with their communities while fulfilling Varo’s Strategic Plan.
• Build relationships with the applicable regulators and be the primary liaison with them.
• Manage the Community Reinvestment Act Plan exam. 
• Advocate for Varo Bank in the community and with community groups and the regulators with respect to the Community Reinvestment Act Plan. 
• Identify and make recommendations for investment opportunities that will fulfill the Community Reinvestment Act Plan as well as have the greatest impact on the diverse communities served by our Strategic Plan. 

Required skills, experiences, and traits

• Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators.
• Prior experience with the implementation, management, and examination of the Community Reinvestment Act.
• Working with community groups in the community reinvestment act space.
• Strong partnership with other banks and community reinvestment act officers.
• Building strong interpersonal relationships within Varo.
