The Developer Compliance Specialist, Developer Support will report to the Developer Support Lead, and will serve as the Developer Support domain expert and point of contact for abuse vectors and developer policy violations within the developer ecosystem. In this position, you will have a broad understanding of Discord’s community guidelines and developer policies, as well as deep understanding of the technical underpinnings of how bots and apps function across Discord.
You will be responsible for user reports and questions regarding developer policy violations, as well as scaled approaches to ensuring that bots are not being built or used in abusive or non-compliant ways. Your success will require partnering with the larger apps team to ensure bots stay safe. We're looking for someone who is highly collaborative and versatile in their approaches, have experience building or using bots in Discord communities, and be able to communicate technical complexity and policy considerations with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
What you'll be doing
  • Leverage technical expertise and sound judgment to review and evaluate bots and user generated content for compliance with our Community Guidelines and Developer Policy
  • Analyze data, propose and implement programmatic rules to handle noncompliance at scale
  • Work with Customer Experience, Legal, Trust & Safety, and PR in responding to sensitive issues
  • Think both quantitatively and qualitatively and create reports to improve, optimize, and innovate
  • Analyze new and potential features and propose plans to help reduce or remove bot abuse before it happens
What you should have
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education / experience
  • Experience with troubleshooting API, SDK, and/or bot issues
  • Passion for supporting our users and developers with unwavering patience and empathy
  • Experience creating and understanding SQL queries
  • Ability to think outside of the box and find creative ways to solve problems
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complicated findings or technical approaches in easy-to-understand ways
  • A desire to work with amazing, passionate people who care deeply about solving challenging problems to keep Discord a safe place for all users
  • Last but not least - a collaborative attitude and a healthy dose of natural curiosity
Bonus Points
  • Familiarity with Discord as a user; whether you're active or lurking on servers, let us know!
  • A background in hands-on compliance or Trust & Safety work
  • Strong problem solving, troubleshooting, and investigative skills: we believe in getting to the root of the matter instead of just addressing symptoms
  • Python experience strongly preferred, basic programming knowledge
  • Familiarity with service first CRMs (Zendesk strongly preferred)

About Us

Discord is a voice, video and text app that helps friends and communities come together to hang out and explore their interests — from artists and activists, to study groups, sneakerheads, plant parents, and more. With 150 million monthly users across 19 million active communities, called servers, Discord has grown to become one of the most popular communications services in the world. Discord was built without selling ads or user data and instead, offers a premium subscription called Nitro that gives users special perks like higher quality streams and fun customizations.

We’re working toward an inclusive world where no one feels like an outsider, where genuine human connection is a click, text chat, or voice call away. A place where everyone can find belonging. Challenging? Heck yes. Rewarding? Double heck yes. It’s a mission that gives us the chance to positively impact millions of people all over the world. So if this strikes a chord with you, come build belonging with us!
