Who You Are

HomeLight is looking for its first Director of Risk to construct the risk governance and drive performance for our Cash Close program as we scale to hundreds of deals per month over the next year. 

You have extensive experience in leading superior, risk-adjusted return management in residential real estate at the individual property level. You are a risk-taker first and foremost before applying your risk management or risk mitigation mindset. You are as interested in the risks you take as the ones you choose not to take. You persist with data-driven decision making and only then you apply judgment in a scalable, systematic way. You collaborate well with frontline sales, operational, and back-office teammates. You are a player/coach, willing to jump in and help wherever an urgent need arises. You enjoy working in a fast-paced, growth environment and value being part of an energetic, fun, and creative team.

What You’ll Do Here

This role will grow from being fairly hands-on, initially responsible for all risk decision-making and property approvals, to building a team to manage the risk & pricing functions.

  • Scale a risk governance organization comprising of both field and centralized operations
  • Take full ownership and responsibility for the risk performance of the Cash Close program, while meeting business objectives
  • Develop a risk framework that ensures we fulfill our fiduciary responsibilities to Cash Close investors
  • Be the final decision maker for all tricky property approval scenarios that require escalation
  • Drive leaps & bounds improvements to the deal assessment, property assessment, and valuation process through the team
  • Establish Risk Analytics framework, infrastructure, and reporting for the CEO and the Board
  • Partner with the sales organization to delegate decision making such that their customer service levels speed of response keep improving
  • Partner with capital markets organization to strengthen investor relationships through regular reporting, feedback, and adjustments  

You have

  • At least 5 years experience managing analytics, risk management for Institutional Investment Management Firms, REITs, or iBuyers.
  • An intuitive understanding of property ownership risks, property valuation risks, property liquidity risk, mortgage credit risk, and interest rate risk. 
  • An exposure to Residential Real Estate Investment with demonstrated ability to move the needle on risk-return performance
  • Affinity for environments that are constantly moving & changing and adapt processes and systems to easily handle these changes
