The Ouster Field Applications Engineer understands how our customers want to use our sensors and helps them conceptualize and bring to life integrated systems using Ouster’s LIDAR. This is a multifaceted role and an opportunity to gain broad exposure to the business with extensive responsibility. The Field Applications Engineer's singular focus is on the successful integration and application of Ouster’s sensors in a myriad of customer-use cases.

 Responsibilities:

  • Help support customer prospects starting from product consultations and technical evaluations through sale. Seamlessly continue supporting the customer in post-sale integration of sensors into customers systems. This may require visiting customers across the US and occasionally internationally. Rapidly troubleshoot customer issues when they arise.
  • Develop and maintain a robust understanding of the technical landscape and complementary sensors/electronics in which Ouster’s sensors live. Understand how the sensor can and should integrate with IMU/INS, GPS, cameras, RADAR, flight control systems, embedded computers, and other sensors.
  • Conduct various test & validation experiments to verify sensor performance in situations & formats that are responsive to customer inquiries
  • Use experience with customers to provide cross-functional feedback/recommendations on product improvement, feature additions, and changes to the user guides.
  • Serve as an effective advocate for Ouster solutions and find opportunities to increase sales while working with the customer, maintaining a deep understanding of the competitive landscape to do so.
  • Work with Ouster’s marketing team to identify iconic use cases and develop customer success stories.
  • Travel as needed (20-40%).

Qualifications:

  • Strong engineering background preferred, in fields such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or Robotics.
  • Proficient at reading and writing code (ideally a familiarity with ROS).
  • Experience with linux and networking
  • Ability to work effectively in teams of technical and non-technical individuals.
  • Working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment (ideally previous work in a startup).
