About the Role
Nuro is looking for a Head of Safety to lead and guide the Nuro safety team. The position is centered on a constant drive for improvement and a strong focus on safety guiding all aspects of our technology and operations. This role intersects leadership, operational excellence and problem solving - a challenge that is only possible by truly exceptional and well-rounded leaders.
About the Work
Build out a world-class team of safety-focused professionals while simultaneously executing at a high level against urgent safety-related tasks
Define Nuro’s internal and external safety policies, practices, and procedures
Serve as technical expert and policy advisor to the leadership team on Safety issues
Define and measure metrics for safe operation
Enforce high safety bar through company-wide technical oversight
Provide insight and analysis for improving safety and minimizing risk
Address risks through proactive hazard identification and mitigation
Improve safety through feedback and corrective actions
About You
10+ years of relevant experience
Experience in a safety-focused position dealing with highly complex technical systems
Extensive experience partnering with or working within one safety-focused government agency (FAA, NTSB, DOT, etc)
Experience working in a highly regulated, process-driven operational environment (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 13485, or similar)
Experience balancing business needs with protecting organizational safety standards
Proven ability to work in a high paced, frequently changing environment
Proven experience as a prior leader in a safety-focused capacity
Ability to work cross-functionally with Software, Hardware, Technical Program Management, and Operations to define and implement safety policies
A creative, solutions-focused approach to safety policy, physical safety, and public welfare, with a focus on achieving results
Proven track record of building talented, high performing teams
Fluent in your ability to motivate, inspire and create an inclusive and positive work environment for all
Proven experience working within highly complex technical environments
A degree in a STEM field (Engineering preferred)
