Position description:

As an IT Generalist at Calico, you thrive on helping your Calico colleagues use technology effectively in their scientific and office work. You are a strong relationship builder who connects user productivity with achieving our aspirations to better understand aging and age-related disease. You have a passion for investigating technical challenges, understanding root causes, and implementing new processes and tools that improve IT customers’ experience. You bring complementary advanced expertise to and enjoy collaborating with a highly skilled IT team to shape Calico’s dynamic computing infrastructure.

 Position requirements:

• Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
• Strong motivation to help colleagues use technology more effectively
• Strong troubleshooting methodology
• Proficiency in scripting and at least one programming language (Python, C++, Javascript)
• Proficiency authoring technical and functional documentation
• Ability to identify key metrics and prepare dashboards to monitor Calico’s office and scientific infrastructure effectiveness
• 5+ years of experience supporting users in a heterogeneous environment of Macs, PCs, and Linux systems. (Experience in a university or scientific setting a plus)
• Flexibility to cover infrequent maintenance events outside of normal business hours
• Advanced expertise in at least two of the expertise areas listed below

Expertise Areas (two or more required):

• Commercial cloud administration, provisioning, and security
• Cloud cluster administration and provisioning (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker)
• Managing macOS and Apple hardware in a corporate environment (Apple certifications or comparable experience a plus)
• Jamf Pro administration (Jamf 400 certification or equivalent skill level)
• Linux system administration
• Active Directory administration
• Open source virtualization administration
• Open source High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster administration
• HPC storage architecture
• IT Automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Nagios, Puppet)
• Cisco Unified Communications Manager administration
• Complex Video Conference administration and troubleshooting
• Enterprise network administration
• Cybersecurity and incident handling
