The Role 

Team Mission:  The Manager, Material Operations team plays a key role in the entire product life cycle for products at SPAN.  The team is accountable for material management across the company to include planning, sourcing, vendor management, material movement and storage, as well as maintaining the vital balance between supply and demand.

Core Functions:  Material program management, global supply management, product cost oversight, demand planning, global logistics, storage and inventory control.

Specific Areas of Focus:  Strategic sourcing, supply chain risk management, material procurement strategy, BOM risk analysis, costed BOM, TLA clear-to-build and line of sight to material constraints, CM & supplier management (component and logistics), customs trade & compliance, global inventory management, global movement of material, reverse logistics, master forecast and demand signal, S&OP, safety stock strategy.


Role & Team Responsibilities:

  • This position will have an opportunity to build the material team and function for SPAN.  We are looking for a Manager who will thrive working for a hyper growth company.

  • Drive material readiness for all R&D (NPI) and products in production.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and implement necessary material product changes.

  • Conduct BOM risk analysis and determine supply continuity strategies.

  • Communicate material forecasts to CM’s and supplier’s to support driving production and inventory targets.

  • Manage CM and supplier engagements to ensure supply continuity, material readiness, and overall supply performance (to include quarterly QBR’s).

  • Partner with the SPAN finance team to monitor spend against budgets as well as providing forecasted spend analysis. Coordinate monthly inventory reports to include material cost for the company. 

  • Manage the supplier tiering and risk rating process for the company.

  • Maintain material inventory oversight for global locations (to include monthly reports)

  • Support end-to-end purchasing for SPAN to include PO requests, accuracy and invoicing.

  • Oversee logistics strategy to include vendors and routes to optimize for cost.

  • Support and direct teams on reverse logistics.

  • Manage and maintain oversight for material inventory levels by location, and route material to and between locations as required to support customer demand or product production.

  • Support RMA activities including maintaining inventory of RMA units, helping with logistics of getting RMA’s to and from the field.

  • Help SPAN counterparts to drive quality improvements with CM’s and suppliers.

About You

Required Qualifications

We are seeking a Material Operations Manager who has:

  • 10+ years of well-rounded experience in various supply chain functions, including: material management, planning, inventory and logistics

  • BA or BS in engineering, supply chain management, or equivalent experience

  • You are currently or have managed a team
  • Self-starter with the ability to adapt, improvise, and problem solve

  • Advanced experience in spreadsheets and similar analysis/planning tools

  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and organizational skills

Bonus Qualifications

We would love to hire someone who has:

  • Built and/or managed a team from the ground up

  • Experience working at a startup and in new product launch environments

  • Background with product lifecycle management and MRP/ERP systems (Oracle, SAP)
