As a Network Engineer at Vicarious, you will be a critical member of the Information Technology team. We are responsible for maintaining and ensuring the digital uptime and productivity of Vicarious people and offices, as well as managing the hardware and software that supports their work. In this role, you will be troubleshooting issues and improving processes, while delivering excellent customer service. You should be comfortable interacting with a diverse client base and working collaboratively with others, learning and supporting new applications and technologies, automating and improving processes, and fixing problems as they arise .You will participate in an on-call rotation.

Your responsibilities

  • Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN)
  • Establish and implement firewall rules hardening, configuration management, network monitoring and control, packet sniffing, log management/analysis, NACL’s and routing protocols - configure and install software, servers, routers, and other network devices
  • VPN setup and policy analysis
  • Work closely with department managers to determine network needs and changes
  • Monitor network performance (availability, utilization, throughput, goodput, and latency) and test for weaknesses
  • Network architecture, analyze the current network structure and generate comprehensive reports on how to make a network more secure and efficient
  • Help build and monitor the network budget
  • Mentor team members on technical issues
  • Maintain complete technical documentation
  • Oncall rotation and general helpdesk may be up to 20% of assigned activities

Background/experience

  • 5+ years of proven experience in a network administrator role, managing and building a complex network
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant discipline
  • Related network and security certifications are a plus. (e.g. CCNP, CCDP, CISSP)
  • Hands-on configuration and operational knowledge of Firewalls, Switches, WiFi, Routers, ACLs, best practices around management, control, and monitoring of network infrastructure
  • Solid knowledge of general LAN and WAN technologies
  • Knowledge and hands-on proficiency with Linux is required
  • Experience with cloud direct connect routing
  • Experience with campus, cloud, and endpoint VPN implementation, troubleshooting, and problem resolution
  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies: VMware, Citrix, HyperV, KVM
  • Experience with enterprise-class hardware (Cisco, Juniper, Arista, etc.)
  • In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. OSPF, BGP)
  • Familiarity with access control models and network security
  • Desired knowledge of coding languages for scripting (e.g Python, Lua)
  • Scripting and automation experience 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced technical environment with increasing support demands and complexity
  • Ability to multitask and manage assigned tasks to meet deadlines and objectives
  • Ability to complete complex projects with minimal supervision

Bonus qualifications

  • SAML SSO experience is a plus
  • Prior experience working in data centers is a plus
