The Opportunity
Afterpay offers customers a better way to pay—a freer, fairer, more flexible means of buying the things they want, when they want, on their terms. Customers shop our network of top retailers, pay for their purchases over time in interest-free installments, and manage it all through our simple app interface.
We launched our in-store payment offering in October 2020 with retail partners like Forever 21, DSW, and Finish Line and are rapidly expanding across storefronts nationwide. In support of this mission, we are currently seeking a Director of Operations to lead the team’s end-to-end operating system. This role will serve as a strategic thought partner to leadership by connecting dots and providing a holistic perspective across all workstreams.
Our ideal candidate is comfortable navigating ambiguity, building from scratch, and always having a bias for action. They can develop solutions for challenges without an existing playbook, and they know how to partner with various partners to ultimately implement change.

-Build a resilient operations foundation for the retail business unit that can support continued rapid growth including new merchants, new segments, new products, new geographies
-Guide the team’s path to realize its vision, from strategic scenario planning to quarterly reviews to weekly leadership team meetings
-Lead cross-functional clarity, collaboration and alignment to key priorities across the team
-Prototype, test, and iterate new processes and operating models that support scalable growth across merchant onboarding, store team training, visual operations, and more
-Design and influence multi-year roadmaps to ensure integration within the team and alignment to key partners throughout the company
-Establish and manage the processes, tools and rhythms that drive the execution of day-to-day work across the team
-Mitigate roadblocks and gaps in the system and help implement the right people, process or technology solutions as needed
-Lead data-driven, technology-enabled improvement efforts to help Afterpay efficiently scale the retail business, make smarter business decisions, and improve customer and profitability metrics
-Establish and measure business metrics to define success, inform decision making and ensure accountability

You’ll have ….
-10+ years of experience in operations, strategy, and/or business planning teams with a track record of growing and scaling successful teams & businesses
-Strong experience within operationally intensive businesses, retail strongly preferred
-Ability to question the status quo and believe there is always a way to continuously improve
-Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to generate trust through partnership and collaboration at all levels
-Demonstrated experience in working cross-functionally to lead and influence business decisions as well as large strategic initiatives
-Exceptional program management skills with the ability to track and manage complex processes
-Experience in data and reporting coupled with proficiency using various reporting tools
-A systems problem solver with strategic problem-solving skills
-A bias for action and the delivery of results
