At Standard Cognition, we’re rethinking the way retail works. We are enabling autonomous checkout for brick & mortar retailers with our AI-powered computer vision platform. Since launching in November 2017, Standard has contracts with multiple global retailers and is in the process of deploying our Standard Checkout solution across thousands of stores globally. We're looking for exceptional engineers to help us build one of the most challenging high performance machine learning engines in the industry. Each one of our systems has to stream process hundreds of gigabytes of video through extensive deep learning algorithms every second, and we're planning to deploy tens of thousands of these systems over the next few years.

This is a full time role is located onsite at our San Francisco office. 

What you'll do here:

• Develop, test, and maintain the high performance engine beneath our distributed machine learning pipelines.
• Investigate and develop fault tolerance mechanisms to improve reliability of client installs.
• Integrate python machine learning models with Rust code base and port legacy infrastructure.
• Write property, integration, unit and performance regression tests.
• Optimize hardware utilization (CPU, GPU, Memory).

Who you are:

• You love building systems that can scale to hundreds of petabytes of data and that can turn over a substantial portion of that data in hours.
• You aren't afraid of big problems or of being wrong.
• You have experience working in Python, with familiarity with Cython or C extension modules.
• You've worked with Linux systems programing: IO multiplexing, socket programing, memory mapped IO, etc.
• You've worked with concurrency primitives: threads, semaphores, mutexes, etc.
• You might have worked with: Rust, x86-64 architecture, memory consistency models, CUDA/OpenCL, HPC, Edge computing, and Lock-free and wait-free data structures.
• You also may have worked with cluster schedulers/resource managers (Mesos, Slurm, Torque, Kube), or with parallel programing tools (MPI, Spark, or actor models like Erlang or Akka)
