About Included Health

Included Health (IH) is working on a mission to raise the standard of healthcare for everyone - which it seeks to achieve by identifying and addressing the gaps in the current healthcare ecosystem. IH’s products seek to help everyone - navigate the healthcare benefits ecosystem, follow up and engage with people outside the four walls of clinics and hospitals; and make the current care delivery system more convenient and frictionless. We are also making sure that under-represented groups such as the LGTBQ+ community have their concerns and preferences addressed in their healthcare journey. You will be joining a team of passionate and deeply committed individuals as we build an integrated and inclusive platform to enable a holistic healthcare ecosystem.

Why join us?

  • Hop on a rocketship: Included Health has recently become the second-biggest digital health company in the US. We’re on a roll and we are still only in the early innings of our mission.
  • Accelerate your career: Forbes’ recently named us a Best Startup Employer, and we’ve been voted a Glassdoor Best Places to work, and a 4x Career-Launching Company by Wealthfront.
  • Roll up your sleeves and partner with experts with all kinds of experience: We hire for intellectual curiosity, humility, and hunger for impact. In this role you’ll get exposure across the company in many strategic projects where you’ll work closely with go-to-market leaders, finance, operations specialists, product managers, doctors, population health experts, designers and data scientists who share a singular goal: make healthcare better.
  • Make healthcare work for millions of people: We’re taking on healthcare head-on. End each day knowing that your work is transforming a $3.6 trillion industry and millions of people’s lives for the better.

About the role

  • We are seeking someone with deep exposure to multiple aspects of healthcare (incl. payer and provider) and experience in re-using and building ontologies and terminologies for healthcare knowledge and content. You will work closely with business leaders and stakeholders holders to unambiguously define and standardize company-wide taxonomies and ontologies. You will leverage your knowledge of healthcare terminology standards, understanding of the healthcare context and use cases and operational datastores to build out standardized taxonomies and terminologies.

What you'll be doing

  • Engage with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to clarify and document business definitions which lead to definitions of standardized concepts that can be organized into ontologies and terminologies/taxonomies.
  • Review and monitor existing data definitions in Database Schemas, data distributions captured in current operational systems
  • Review and Document requirements - in the form of stakeholders, product features, information needs, and navigation flows across various sub-products and stakeholders
  • Identify Industry Standards (Ontologies and Terminologies) and standardized taxonomies and terminologies.
  • Collaborative and Iterative Design of Terminologies and Taxonomies - and their cross-mapping to industry standard terminologies and IH taxonomies
  • Validate Terminologies for consistency and coverage (completeness) - based on feedback from stakeholders and running test queries and reports
  • Collaborate with members of the data platform team to map terminology concepts into data values in operational systems.
  • Collaborate with members of the data platform team to identify downstream impacts whenever there’s addition/deletion/modification of concepts in terminologies.
  • Evaluation of Terminology Creation and Management tools - e.g., Protege, Health Language, Apelon, Symedica

What makes you a great fit

  • Deep understanding and knowledge of Terminology Standards such as ICD10, CPT, Snomed, LOINC, RXNorm (Must Have), ERGs, RERGs, DRGs (Nice to Have)
  • (Preferred) Experience with Terminology Creation and Management Tools
