About the Role:
The Payment Operations Specialist is a vital function within our organization, ensuring the seamless, efficient, and secure flow of all electronic payment transactions. This role sits at the intersection of finance, technology, and compliance, serving as the daily operational expert responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and improving our payment infrastructure and processes. The criticality of this position lies in its direct impact on customer experience, revenue integrity, and regulatory adherence. Success in this role requires a deep understanding of payment lifecycles and a commitment to operational excellence and risk mitigation.
What You'll Do:
- Own the Daily Payment Lifecycle: Be the primary point of contact for the end-to-end operational execution of payment processing across all supported channels (e.g., credit/debit cards, ACH, digital wallets, wire transfers).
- Operational Monitoring and Incident Response: Proactively monitor payment system performance, identify transaction failures, reconcile discrepancies, and rapidly troubleshoot and resolve operational incidents in partnership with Engineering and Finance teams.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Execute daily operational controls, including transaction monitoring and reporting, to ensure compliance with relevant payment network rules (e.g., Visa, Mastercard) and regulatory standards (e.g., AML, KYC).
- Process Optimization and Efficiency: Identify operational bottlenecks and inefficiencies within the payment flow and drive projects to automate manual tasks, improve processing speed, and reduce overall operational costs.
- Manage Key Payment Relationships: Assist in managing relationships and operational communications with third-party payment providers, processors, acquiring banks, and payment gateways.
- Reporting and Analysis: Generate detailed operational reports on key metrics such as authorization rates, chargeback volumes, fraud trends, and settlement timing, providing actionable insights to leadership.
Who You Are:
- Experience: 2 to 7 years of professional experience specifically within the Payments Industry (e.g., FinTech, acquiring banks, payment processors, or a merchant with a high-volume payment function).
- Payments Expertise: Must possess a strong foundational understanding of payment methodologies, including authorization, clearing, and settlement for card networks, as well as an understanding of alternative payment methods (e.g., ACH/SEPA/RTP).
- Technical Acumen: Ability to leverage internal tools, run basic SQL queries (or similar data extraction methods), and analyze large datasets to identify operational trends and root causes of payment failures.
