About the Opportunity

We're returning to our startup roots after learning that corporate complexity doesn't equal success. As a profitable, 28-person push notification and subscriptoin platform processing 500M+ daily messages, we're seeking a fractional People Operations leader who believes great companies are built through focus, not bureaucracy.

Your Mission

Partner with our CEO to create an environment where talented people do their best work. You'll streamline HR operations, champion performance excellence, and help us maintain the entrepreneurial spirit that made us successful.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct monthly 1:1s with all team members to understand challenges and opportunities
  • Transform our overly complex review system into something simple and effective by Q1 2026
  • Leverage AI and automation to eliminate administrative burden
  • Make thoughtful, swift decisions on people matters with CEO partnership
  • Support our Austin office culture while respecting flexible work arrangements
  • Focus resources on high performers and business-critical initiatives

You'll Thrive Here If You

  • Believe the best HR when enabling work, not creating process
  • Have successfully simplified complex systems while improving outcomes
  • Use modern tools and AI to multiply your effectiveness
  • Can balance compassion with business necessity
  • Prefer solving real problems over implementing "best practices"
  • Value clear, direct communication over corporate diplomacy

What We Offer

  • Competitive fractional compensation for 20-30 hours/week
  • Direct CEO partnership with real decision-making authority
  • Freedom to eliminate unnecessary process
  • Opportunity to shape a growing company's culture
  • Flexible schedule with occasional Austin office presence

To Apply

Please share:

  1. An example of how you've simplified an overly complex HR process
  2. Your approach to supporting high performers in a small team
  3. How you currently use AI or automation in your work

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
