YOUR ROLE

The Life, Annuity and Long Term Care Data solutions team which is responsible for the end to end data architecture, data governance and data engineering scope from source systems to data consumers is seeking a Principal Level Data Engineer.  This role will lead, mentor, and assist team members in the software development lifecycle process from design, build, test, and run responsibilities.  

The candidate will be joining a high-performing team that is passionate and motivated to address internal and external customer needs.  The anticipated team size is twenty-five individuals, organized into four agile teams consisting of various roles such as data product owner, agile leader, data engineers, data governance analysts, data modelers, testers, and production operation personnel.   You will be working closely with the agile leader, data product owner, principal architect, and other functional leads from security, cloud, testing and data modeling.

The core architecture of the platform is a modern streaming for transaction level performance and analytical pipelines with the medallion and OneLake architecture.  The top opportunity for this position involves overseeing the implementation of a new architecture designed to replace the majority of current analytical platforms and data processes.

What you will be doing

  • Designing, building, testing, and production support of analytical pipelines
  • Implementing DataBricks streaming and analytical data processes
  • Leading design and coding standards including code reviews
  • Building and re-using data tests for subsequent releases
  • Delta tables with streaming pipelines including APIs for UX consumption
  • Spark performance optimization including cluster and coding optimization methods
  • Production monitoring and defect resolution
  • CI/CD implementation in analytical pipelines
  • Capable of performing POCs to demonstrate the utility of new coding, DataBricks or other platform features such as AI programming and testing code generation.

  • Capable of being proactive with business leadership on solution options and recommendations that address their requirements including how business data self service data processes are integrated into the architecture.
  • Experience using Agile methodologies and creating good stories that complete a solution
  • Capable of performing software engineering disciplines from design, build, testing and production support.
  • Capable of leading technical projects and decomposing work across team members.
  • Ability to mentor and develop other data professionals so they can grow and advance.
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity where you influence or drive the process

The base salary pay range for this role starts at a minimum rate of $ 120,000 up to the maximum of $200,000. In addition to your base salary, you will also be eligible to participate in an incentive plan. The incentive plan is based on performance and the target earning opportunity is 15% of your base compensation.  The final determination on base pay for this position will be based on multiple factors at the time of this job posting including but not limited to geographic location, experience, and qualifications to ensure pay equity within the organization.
