As a Principal Software Engineer on the Virtual Economy Products team, you will help drive a healthy and ever-growing creator economy at Roblox. Our team handles the platform and infrastructure that supports in-game monetization systems within Roblox. Our products enable creators to sell virtual goods within their experience, handling millions of daily transactions. Our goal is to empower our creators and help them optimize their monetization strategy via our platform.

You Will:

  • Lead projects with the highest economic impact and visibility.
  • Work cross-functionally with product managers, data scientists, and designers to define requirements and roadmap.
  • Drive engineering vision for highly scalable and innovative solutions.
  • Develop innovative systems for our creators to optimize their revenue within Roblox.
  • Help recruit future talent for the team.

You Have:

  • 9+ years of experience developing and supporting highly available, large-scale user-facing systems
  • 3+ years of experience leading large & complex projects
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical field.
  • Bonus: Experience working in the gaming industry or monetization platforms.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Annual Salary Range

$289,460$338,270 USD

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).

Hybrid Workspace

Employees engage in a combination of remote and on-site work.

We are requiring employees to be in the office three days a week – with core days being Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. On Mondays and Fridays, employees may choose to work remotely, although the office will still be open.
