Product Manager, Open Source Software

As a Product Manager at DataHub, you will work cross-functionally to help guide products from ideation to launch by connecting the technical needs of users and the business needs of our company. You will help define the vision, goals, and strategy we pursue in concert with engineers, designers, sales, and partners that move the practice of analytics engineering forward.

DataHub’s Open Source Software project was released in 2020 under the Apache2.0 licence and we maintain the project while fostering a community of developers. Since release, DataHub has attracted 13,000 members to our community Slack channel, including practitioners from some of the largest companies in the world. In this role, you’ll be responsible for being an active advocate for our OSS community members, building a roadmap with our engineering team that is grounded in our commitment to OSS, incorporates market research, and prioritizes features that move the needle for DataHub.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Define the vision, goals, strategy, tactics and roadmap execution path for our Open Source Software with our engineering team
  • Work closely with the DataHub community to understand needs of practitioners that drive deeper engagement with our products and features
  • Support the prioritization of GitHub issues that are escalated to the team, ensuring that we engage with and accept community changes
  • Run meet-ups, town halls, and other gatherings to bring together OSS users to build a thriving community
  • Study, research, and understand the broader data ecosystem, with a specific focus on user requirements, market potential, and competitive landscape with an AI future
  • Translate ambiguous user problems into well-scoped product initiatives with clear definitions of success
  • Inspire teams of people to achieve great things together, while also tying the roadmap within a domain to broader product strategy goals and company goals

You are a good fit if you have:

  • 4+ years of experience in product management or related function
  • Previous experience working with OSS software and building vibrant communities
  • Deeply quantitative and enjoy rolling up your sleeves and exploring the data and connecting it to strategic initiatives
  • Experience in the data space, using or building data tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator

You'll have an edge if you have:

  • Previous experience working with the modern data stack that have an OSS element (Spark, Presto/Trino, Confluent, Airflow, Superset, etc)
  • Comfortable discussing, explaining, and presenting product vision to large audiences
