Director of Product, Money Movement
Chime is the largest and fastest-growing player in the challenger-banking space, providing mobile and online banking technology in the U.S. and facilitating over 5M accounts with no physical branches. We’re a technology company relentlessly focused on helping our members achieve financial peace of mind. That’s why we offer access to an award-winning bank account that doesn’t charge hidden fees, can give members early access to their paychecks, and enables them to grow their savings automatically. And we’re just getting started. We are proud of our mission, devoted to our members, and passionate about applying technology to the challenge of making financial health a reality for everyone.
We have one of the most experienced management teams in Fintech and have raised over $800M in funding from DST, General Atlantic, Iconiq, Coatue, Dragoneer, Menlo, Access, Forerunner, and others. If you’re looking to join a fast-growing company with a beloved, daily-use product and an authentic mission that puts people first, we want to meet you.
About the Role
Think of all the ways you move money into and out of your bank account. You may set up payroll direct deposit, make ACH and wire transfers, make instant transfers (AFTs and OCTs), write and cash checks, withdraw and deposit cash, etc. These examples of “money movement” are among the most essential, frequent, and high-value jobs to be done by our members on Chime. And because they’re so fundamental to our member experience, they have the potential to make or break our members’ loyalty and trust. The mission of your team is, on its face, simple: make the movement of money as fast, easy, reliable and free as possible for our members. In practice, making these experiences frictionless and delightful requires creative vision, strong partnerships, detailed financial and risk analysis, and operational excellence. While we’re off to a solid start, there remains enormous opportunity to improve and innovate.
The Director of Product, Money Movement role is one of the most important hires we’ll make within product management this year. Reporting directly to the SVP of Product, you and your PM team will own the member experiences described above. You will build a strategy, develop product roadmaps, and partner closely with engineering to enhance our current offering and deliver new services.
But this role is much broader than that. At Chime, product leaders are also like GMs. As a director, you are entrusted not only with traditional product development, but also with driving alignment and results across a dedicated cross-functional team that includes risk, compliance, member services, biz dev, finance and more. These Chimers will look to you to help set the end-to-end member experience vision and goals within your area, balancing member needs with metrics like contact rate, fraud losses, compliance risk, and unit economics. While some aspects of money movement are technically complex, and while previous experience in the ecosystem is a big plus, we are primarily looking for two things: a consumer product leader obsessed with member experience, and a skilled operator who can drive alignment and results across a broad, matrixed team. If this sounds to you like the challenge and thrill of a lifetime, we’d love to meet you.
Responsibilities
- Develop a deep understanding of user needs within money movement; identify and prioritize opportunities and challenges in the current experience; develop a product vision and strategy to makes this area not only frictionless and delightful, but a true center of innovation, differentiation, and member love
- Work with your product development teams and broader cross-functional stakeholders to develop ambitious goals each half; lead a planning process that drives alignment and conviction around your goals
- Own not just product development goals, but holistic member experience and business metrics, including contact rate and losses. Hold your cross-functional partners accountable, and do whatever it takes to make them successful.
- Manage and grow a team of PMs (starting with one and growing to three or more by EOY)
- In partnership with our user research team, develop strong empathy with our members and deep insights into their needs through qualitative and quantitative methods
- Develop a deep understanding of the players and trends in the money movement ecosystem, and work closely with our biz dev and finance teams to form partnerships that help deliver on your mission
- Build business cases for initiatives that involve nuanced financial/risk/experience tradeoffs
- Communicate your strategy, goals, and progress to peers and executives
Requirements
- 8+ years of work experience, including at least 6 years in product management and 3 years in a leadership role; past experience in consulting, finance, or operations a plus
- Bachelor degree or above; an MBA or equivalent experience will be helpful for the GM-like aspects of the role
- Domain experience in fintech a plus, given the technical, regulatory, and ecosystem complexity involved
- Goal-driven and metrics-oriented, but member-obsessed above all; you augment your data-orientation with more qualitative approaches to developing user empathy and insight; you have strong UX instincts
- Strong ownership mindset; you embrace accountability and stay solution-oriented even in the face of headwinds; you find ways to inspire and drive the people you rely on, even and especially when they don’t report to you
- Strong communication skills and the ability to drive alignment and results within cross-functional teams
- Track record of recruiting, developing, and retaining top PM talent; comfortable with coaching and performance management
- Skilled at developing business cases in support of challenging strategic decisions
- Eager to dive into the details when needed, while being mindful of what it takes to effectively manage multiple teams working on a range of member problems
What we offer
- Competitive salary based on experience, medical and dental benefits, as well as a 401k match
- Free snacks and drinks, plus weekly catered lunches.
- Flexible vacation policy.
- Monthly happy hours and company events.
- A challenging and fulfilling opportunity to join one of the most experienced teams in FinTech and help create a completely new kind of bank.
