Common Networks was founded on the idea that everyone should have a choice for fast, affordable access to broadband internet. Right now, most homes in the U.S. don't. In fact, 62% of homes live in a monopoly broadband market. High-speed access unlocks all the superpowers on the internet. When it works, it can be a great leveling force across the world, giving everyone access to educational tools, entertainment, immediate translations, or even medical care that they wouldn’t otherwise have.

Common Networks provides suburban neighborhoods with internet using wireless technology. We interconnect homes in a neighborhood, creating a mesh network between homes and our fiber internet sources. A whole community can then have fast and reliable internet service with only a few locations needing fiber access.

Role

We are looking to hire our first Hardware Supply Chain Manager. As a Hardware Supply Chain Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring Common has the supplies and equipment needed to provide the best affordable internet possible for our customers. In this role, you will develop the supply chain strategy, define logistics practices, and act as the primary contact for product sourcing at Common. Sourced technologies include items for products in development, such as electrical and mechanical components, as well as new off the shelf products that we plan to launch, such as new radios, WiFi access points, and VOIP hardware.

With your industry and supplier knowledge, you’ll lead both external and internal cross-functional teams to optimize product development, prototype, deployment, and production. You’ll be integral for ensuring continuous improvement and delivering operational excellence with reductions in cost as you know that every cent saved helps the bottom line for the company and our customers.

What you do

  • Partner with product, engineering, and field operations teams to define the technology and product roadmap
  • Ensure alignment between suppliers and Common’s requirements
  • Manage material planning for new and existing products; identify product availability/options and make recommendations on what’s best for Common
  • Develop a sourcing strategy
  • Ensure continuity of supply and drive operational and cost efficiency through process or design change
  • Identify, qualify, and formalize suppliers that are right for Common
  • Effectively build strategic supplier relationships and negotiate optimal terms for sourcing products; understand trade-offs between cost, volume, and quality in order to create agreements that work for Common
  • Support verification of bill of material accuracy “BOM” and draft statements of work “SOW”
  • Draft contracts and drive negotiations to completion
  • Analyze spend/cost modeling and reduce costs wherever possible
  • Measure and report supplier and internal administration productivity and identify/drive supply chain efficiency opportunities
  • Gather insights and advocate for feature enhancements and/or new products that will drive efficiency at the field operations level

Who you are

  • Collaborative team member. You are open, honest, and can respectfully work through difficult problems with the rest of the team.
  • Clear communicator. You have many audiences - engineers, designers, operations team, our board of directors, etc. You know how to structure written and verbal communications clearly for each audience.
  • Creative problem-solver. We are developing technology and a product that has never been built before. You are creative; you generate new, innovative ideas that help us solve problems.
  • Expert negotiator. You are able to negotiate with the best of them and can come up with terms that work for all parties involved.
  • Bargain hunter. You like looking for cost-savings wherever possible but not at the expense of quality.
  • Detail oriented. You sweat the small stuff and don’t let things slip through the cracks. You understand the difference between letting something slip through the cracks vs. actively deprioritizing an edge case.
  • Naturally curious and have a self-starter personality with hustle. You don't need to wait for people to tell you what to work on. You know that done is better than perfect and are energized by constantly delivering and moving things forward. You roll up your sleeves and do whatever it takes to make things successful.
  • Flexible and excited to work in a fast paced, rapidly evolving environment.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience working with suppliers
  • Track record of contract negotiations and drafting
  • Experience working with internal and external cross-functional teams
  • Shown ability to reduce costs and drive efficiencies
  • Excited to work in a rapidly changing startup environment
