As a Principal Technical Product Manager of User Behavior Systems at Upwork, you will work at the intersection of Product, Analytics, Engineering and User Experience teams to build out Upwork’s end-to-end User Behavior Analytics Systems. This is an exciting opportunity to help our Product Managers understand how people interact on our Upwork platform, so they can continue building an extraordinary experience for our customers. Your team will include outstanding talent around the world, many sourced from the Upwork marketplace!

Your Responsibilities:

  • Define roadmap for User Behavior Tracking based on current gaps and prioritization of business needs. Define cross team results and program success metrics for annual and quarterly roadmap. Drive execution of roadmap across teams.
  • Collaborate with analysts across the company to define and standardize metrics, OKR's and requirements for tracking and analytics. Ensure tracking and metrics are aligned with Product Leadership vision and supports the way we make decisions at all levels of the organization.
  • Work with multi-functional teams to define processes and standards for tagging as part of overall PDLC. Regularly audit the process to ensure compliance. Identify root causes for non-compliance and propose recommendations to address.
  • Work with partners to develop our tagging taxonomy framework and evolve as the need arises. Ensure taxonomy and nomenclature that are both searchable, usable and readable by all viewers. Own event metadata management tool and govern processes for assembling content across teams.
  • Work with Upwork’s data engineering team to ensure the reporting data layer meets analytics needs. Ensure tracking data is linked to other customer and product data where possible.

What it takes to catch our eye:

  • Hands-on and leadership experience in Technical Product Management roles with Web Analytics /User Behavior Tracking.  Prefer combination of technical and business roles, especially in two-sided marketplace business models.
  • Digital technology experience and/or experience with enterprise Analytics or Tag Management systems, both in-house and commercial solutions (e.g. Segment, Adobe DTM, Google Tag Manager, or other TMS in web/mobile app environments.)
  • Rich knowledge of event collection and data processing technologies, such as Snowplow, real-time data pipeline and reporting, and AWS-based big data technologies.
  • Attention to detail combined with drive. You take ownership of projects and take pride in seeing them through to full completion.
  • Hands-on experience in the marketplace business model. Experienced SQL writer.
