HOVER uses patented technology making it possible for anyone with a smartphone camera to create an interactive 3D model, complete with detailed measurements and powerful design features. The data produced is extremely valuable as it generates a single source of truth for the physical world allowing for more veracity throughout the home improvement and insurance processes. We’ve found an incredibly strong product-market fit across exterior home improvement, insurance, and financial services. What's the secret sauce? Computer vision and an exceptional culture.

With our team of investors, including Google Ventures and Menlo Ventures, HOVER is committed to continuing our success and facilitating growth. We believe there is strength in diversity so we hire skilled and passionate people from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Why HOVER wants you:

Our Design & Research Team is growing fast (300% growth in 2019 alone), and we are looking for an experienced Product Design Lead to make a serious impact on one of our most meaningful new product initiatives in 2020 and beyond.

We are looking for a player/coach (roughly 60/40 split in duties, respectively) who will act as the lead product designer on their specific product(s), collaborating cross-functionally with product managers and engineers, while also helping to guide your direct reports—providing focus, mentorship, consistent design feedback, and more. Strong opinions about design practice are also a plus.

You will contribute by:

  • Work closely with the Product Design Director to develop team strategy and shared vision.
  • Partner cross-functionally with fellow Design Team members (such as DesignOps or User Research) as well as with Product and Engineering to influence product direction and execution.
  • Manage a team of 2-3 direct reports, conducting/leading weekly 1:1s, active design sessions (brainstorming, whiteboarding, wireframing, etc), critique sessions, providing frequent feedback on ongoing work, and conducting periodic employee evaluations.
  • Act as a hiring manager when needed to continue to grow the team to meet the needs of the company.
  • Design interaction models, wireframes, mid-fidelity and hi-fidelity mockups that promote ease of use and optimize how customers interact with our products.
  • Analyze tasks, model information, navigation and flows using UX best practices for web and mobile.
  • Present design updates to the team (internally) and to external stakeholders, articulating a story around design decisions and the impact they will have.
  • Be accountable for the output and quality of your team’s work, while reinforcing the voice of our customer, implementing design thinking, and building for user delight.

We hope you are:

  • Forward-thinking and excellent with planning. You think ahead, recognizing problems before others do.
  • A true empath who works hard to understand your directs, their career aspirations, challenges, and more.
  • You put the user first, and have the ability to drive user centricity throughout your organization.
  • A demonstrable thought leader (current or aspiring) within the design industry, having strong opinions (loosely held) about what makes great design, and the ability to successfully articulate it to others.

Your background includes:

  • 4+ years experience as a Product Designer working within a technology company, ideally in a SAAS/B2B field
  • 2+ years of experience in a design-centric leadership role, with at least 1-2 direct reports
  • Familiarity with web-based coding tools and languages (HTML, CSS, JQUERY, etc)
  • Demonstrable experience designing products for both web and mobile platforms.
  • Demonstrably strong design capabilities across UX Design and UI Design and experience shipping products to consumers
  • Expert-level understanding of contemporary design tools such as Figma, Sketch and Adobe Creative Suite

Please Include in your application:

  • A full resume
  • A portfolio with work relevant to this role
