About the Sr. Product Manager, Credit-Building Products role

We are seeking a customer-obsessed Product Manager who is excited about diving into helping customers build their credit with a mixture of actual financial products (secured card and lending) and credit monitoring products. You will own our brand new Varo Believe product, a secured card that tracks and then builds credit for our customers, and also set a course for a broader suite of credit-building products at Varo. This role will be unique in that you will have both in-app experiences like credit monitoring and financial products like a secured card and loans to combine into an experience that truly helps customers build their credit and healthy financial habits. Your objective will be to drive improved credit scores and borrowing power for customers, and engagement and spend with Varo.

What you'll do

  • Understand our customers, and define the roadmap for card and lending products that help customers build both their credit score and their available credit with Varo
  • Understand Varo’s overall product suite and define the way that secured card and credit tracking interacts with other products in a complementary way
  • Define the core capabilities needed to manage a high-quality secured card experience, including a partnership with our engineering team in deciding where to build technology and where to partner with technology providers.
  • Created and implement the roadmap for a secured card and credit tracking at Varo
  • Identify and execute on opportunities to build new credit-building lending products for customers
  • Partner with our product marketing and brand teams to define the customer val-prop and go-to-market strategy for credit improvement products
  • Test the experience with customers to validate key hypotheses, and partner closely with design and user research to ensure that we’re launching simple and delightful experiences
  • Create detailed requirements and partner closely with engineering
  • Incorporate risk management into your product strategy from the start, partnering with Varo’s risk and credit teams to ensure that we are launching sustainable, high-quality, and compliant products.
  • Roll up your sleeves to remove barriers and obstacles hindering the team's ability to ship
  • Iterate on the already in-market products, and launch MVP versions of new products to test and validate hypotheses
  • Own executive and stakeholder communication and collaboration and evangelize the role of secured card and credit building products within the company.

Required skills, experiences, and traits

  • You believe in being part of an inclusive bank that is made to serve the needs of all customers, regardless of their backgrounds
  • You are an experienced Product Manager who is passionate about helping customers effectively manage their finances and spending
  • You care deeply about understanding your customer and their needs and then move decisively to solve those needs.
  • You are analytical and are comfortable with consuming and analyzing data to improve your product’s performance
  • You are a strong partner with engineering teams and like to collaborate on the technical details of products you manage
  • Preferred: You have worked on either card, lending or credit tracking products in the past, and are comfortable with the complexities of building high-quality fintech experiences
  • Strong execution capability and ability to drive work to completion
  • Ability to partner effectively with a broad range of teams, including engineering, design, user research, credit, risk management, and others. 
  • You have 5-7+ years of experience as a product manager, with several years in a fintech role
