Particle is hiring an experienced Technical Product Manager to lead our critically important Cloud Foundation engineering team. As the product manager for this team, you will be responsible for delivery on the key technology behind Particle’s “it just works” IoT value proposition, including device security, connectivity, OTA firmware updates, and bidirectional messaging and control. 

Particle provides an all-in-one IoT platform that includes MCU-based hardware, our embedded Device OS, cellular connectivity, and cloud platform as a part of a single managed service for IoT product creators. Particle’s device service is the beating heart of our IoT platform that manages hundreds of thousands of active device sessions, routes billions of messages per year, and facilitates seamless OTA requests and updates to devices deployed in 100+ countries around the world. As our Technical Product Manager you will be responsible for leading an experienced team of engineers to improve the capabilities, reliability, and scalability of this key technology that powers hundreds of our ≈customers’ products.

Responsibilities for this Technical PM include:

• Defining and implementing device and application “availability” metrics to guide efforts to improve platform reliability
• Adding new device communication primitives to achieve a complete set of telemetry methods that meet evolving customer needs
• Designing and implementing a device state machine with associated logic that prevents devices from becoming locked in undesirable states

Our ideal product manager has had experience driving the roadmap for high-growth enterprise software platforms, has a thorough attention to detail, can clearly communicate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences, and is equally excited about 99.999% reliability as they are about new feature design. You also have a background or previous experience in distributed computing, networking, cloud computing, and/or message brokers.

What you’ll do

• Define and steward the roadmap for Particle’s Cloud Foundation team, including writing product requirements documents (PRDs) to effectively articulate your vision for the product
• Determine and prioritize feature and bug backlogs in partnership with a corresponding team of engineers and designers 
• Project manage technical execution of prioritized initiatives alongside a Tech Lead and team of engineers
• Enable non-technical teams to effectively leverage new products and features through collaboration on launch activities, overseeing internal training, writing documentation, etc.
• Partner with other product/engineering teams to execute on longer term product vision and/or ambitious product “moonshots”
• Conduct regular customer discovery and user research activities to influence product strategy

You should have

• 5+ years of experience in a product management role, including experience in a high-growth startup environment
• A background in engineering or equivalent PM experience in distributed computing, networking, cloud computing, and/or message brokers
• Extremely strong verbal, visual, and written communication skills, and can message appropriately for all levels of the organization
• Previous experience leading a team of engineers through product releases, from kickoff to delivery

Nice to have

• Previous experience with embedded devices or writing C/C++ is a plus
• Previous in IoT is a plus
