GRAIL is building the software to run population scale clinical studies using start of the art technologies and software engineering. We are looking for a Director, Technical Project Management to be responsible for leading a team of Technical Project Managers towards the successful deployment of projects under development by the clinical and software engineering teams. This will include resource planning and deployment, project prioritization, process development, establishment and management of timelines, tracking completion of software life cycle deliverables, facilitation of interdepartmental communication, meeting management, creation of slide sets and other communication tools.
This leadership role requires a thorough understanding of the software development life cycle as well as a proven creative ability to move technology projects forward while addressing and overcoming challenges that include prioritization of project manager resources in a matrixed organization and developing internal talent. It is important that this person has the ability to work effectively, create credible relationships across functions, and incorporate broad viewpoints into deliverables.
You Will:
- Lead and manage a team of software project managers and technical writers, guiding them on their deliverables and work priorities while identifying opportunities for improvement for the growing complexity and scale of the business.
- Have the strategic edge and agility to seamlessly navigate up and down the organization.
- Have sufficient technical experience to create or contribute to thoughtful solutions on how to get the work done.
- Have the leadership skills to motivate the group.
- Not be afraid or reluctant to roll up your sleeves to help do the work.

- Generate creative solutions to project processes and quality related challenges.
- Examine and track functional issues from a broader organizational perspective and provide solutions to issues and gaps.
- Participate in and/or lead departmental or interdepartmental projects.
- Schedule and conduct project meetings as required.
- Develop project metrics.
- Identify and manage project risks.
- Apply sound project management methodologies.
- Prepare and disseminate project status reports.
Your Background Includes:
- The ideal candidate will have at least 10+ years multidisciplinary experience in the device/diagnostic/biotech industry.
- 8+ years of experience as a software developer or software tester.
- 5+ years of direct line management experience.5+ years managing large scale software projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or life science related field or equivalent work experience; advanced degree preferred.
- Proven ability to proactively identify risks and drive resolution of issues.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams with a clear vision and plan.
- Ability to motivate a team to work effectively under a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Experienced in thinking strategically and influencing cross functionally across an organization.
- Strong interpersonal communication (written and verbal), and organizational skills.
- Experience across the software development life cycle using methodologies such as Agile, Scrum or similar.
- Proficiency with office automation and project management tools.
- A strong work ethic and demonstrated ability to deliver assignments on time.
- Experience in CAP/CLIA/FDA environment.
- Knowledge of FDA Regulations, in particular 21 CFR Part 11 and the Software Development Guidance documents.
- PMP, CSM, preferred.
