Reports To: Vice President of Technology | Building Innovation Group

Location: New York, NY or San Francisco, CA 

Carbon Lighthouse is looking for a motivated, resourceful, and well-organized Research Project Manager to join our Building Innovations Group (BIG) on the Technology Team. BIG is responsible for researching and developing new energy efficiency measures and making them part of our standard service package.

This new role is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the BIG team, including coordination with and training of the engineering and sales teams, managing site work to trial new measures, and optimizing BIG team operations. As the team and this person’s project management skills grow, they will hopefully take greater responsibility for broader research project management. 

This position is a great opportunity for the ultimate “get it done”-er who has an applied technical background and who wants to develop industry leading project management skills. The ideal candidate is highly organized and can juggle multiple demands, effectively prioritizing the most important ones. This person loves working in teams and is an excellent communicator with a variety of stakeholders. They willingly dive into problems that arise and solve them through thoughtful question asking and collaboration. 

This position can be located in San Francisco or New York City, and will require occasional travel to project sites and our other offices.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate research work with other teams within Carbon Lighthouse, including: 
  • Manage and help develop new energy efficiency measure documentation and training
  • Provide front-line support to other teams after release of new measures, bringing in additional technical resources as needed
  • Communicate research and development progress with other teams, to ensure company-wide engagement
  • Coordinate site work for trials of new energy efficiency measures, including: 
  • Work with sales and engineering to identify potential sites to test new measures
  • Coordinate contractors, site teams, and BIG team members to ensure smooth implementation and verification
  • Perform field work, including observation of new measure installation, as well as data collection for measurement and verification
  • Communicate information learned from site trials to BIG team members and other Carbon Lighthouse teams to support release of measures
  • Guide implementation of continuous improvements in team operations
  • Develop and use tools or processes to:
  • Track and improve team operations and performance
  • Track and improve ongoing research and site work, including risk management


Required Qualifications:

  • Dedication to Carbon Lighthouse’s environmental mission
  • BS/BA in Engineering or demonstrated equivalent technical experience
  • 2+ years professional work experience
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and timely follow-through
  • Excellent question-asker, with ability to initiate, research, and execute a variety of stimulating tasks
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Technical aptitude, and ability to quickly learn and master new concepts
  • Must be able to work in the US, this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship
  • Ability to travel to local and national sites (~0-5 days per month)
  • Ability to work in industrial and mechanical spaces, with exposure to heat, noise, heights, and confined spaces
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds, and carry 20 pounds up a ladder

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Technical research experience
  • Experience with commercial HVAC systems
  • Project management/coordination qualification or work experience, especially with Scrum or Agile principles
