As the Technical Community Manager at CircleCI, your main goal is to build connections with current and future CircleCI developers and help inspire and educate them around DevOps principles, namely CI/CD. This involves leading both the strategy and execution, and is a big opportunity for someone with a technical background who thrives on building scalable communities around the world. The right person for this role has experience building and measuring community programs (online, in-person, and via social media), and is looking for an opportunity to originate and grow this program at CircleCI. The Technical Community Manager reports directly to the Head of Developer Relations and Community.

This position can be based remotely from the United States or Canada.

About Developer Relations and Community at CircleCI

The Developer Relations and Community team is responsible for connecting with, inspiring, and educating developers (our users) on the CircleCI platform in particular and DevOps principles in general. Our DevRel team works closely with multiple areas of the company, from Marketing to Engineering to Product, to name a few, as well as building relationships with 3rd parties and partners.

What you'll do: 

  • Develop a full-scale, outbound community program focused around engagement, inspiration, and education of the CircleCI brand
  • Manage the CircleCI community engagement strategy, including measurable goals and KPIs
  • Create and manage an ambassador program, with the goal of creating a self-sustaining, global network of influencers
  • Increase the number of developers that regularly interact with CircleCI by providing an active community
  • Own the vision and strategy for interacting with, and growing, our Developer Community
  • Own community interaction and engagement on Discuss (forum), Twitter, StackOverflow, Medium, HackerNews, and beyond.
  • Define the ways in which community members can provide feedback and input to CircleCI
  • Collaborate with Product, Customer Engineering, Business Development, Brand Marketing teams, as well as Events to ensure coordinated participation and a consistent narrative
  • Work with Community & Partner Engineering Team to expand the number of active and influential open source projects using CircleCI
  • Collaborate with the Developer Advocate role at international, national, and local events
  • Create processes to capture, analyze, leverage and share customer insights to stakeholders in the Company
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales to launch new services, features and enhancements effectively through the community
  • Support the Content Managers in identification and creation of new content (blog posts, videos, etc.) to the community on a regular basis to help drive the conversation, with the goal of turning active community members into advocates. Also help source Guest Writers

What we're looking for:

  • You are obsessed with making developers happy
  • You have 3+ years of experience leading community advocacy programs
  • You are very familiar with the open source community
  • You are analytical and data driven in your approach to building and nurturing communities
  • You have experience facilitating sensitive and complex community situations with humility, empathy, judgment, tact, and humor
  • You share our values, and work in accordance with those values
  • You are a technology enthusiast at heart. Love all things related to engineering and adopting new and exciting technologies. You think like a developer
  • You exhibit Interpersonal skills by effectively communicating, building rapport, and relating to others at all levels, in both written and verbal forms
  • You have experience working with software engineering teams (in product, design, or engineering) with at least 3+ years of community development
  • You have a solid understanding of relevant technology and tools including CI/CD, APIs, cloud solutions, and programming languages
  • You might have a background in SaaS, real-time communications, or enterprise

Bonus points!

  • You were a full-time developer in a previous life, but you prefer to work with the developer community to improve experience and support through education
  • You have experience representing a company, project, or community at events, conferences, meetups, etc. and giving talks
  • You have an existing network from a diverse set of communities and social media platforms
