About Augment Code

Augment Code is the only AI coding assistant built for professional software engineers working in large, production‑grade codebases. Our Context  Engine understands your entire repo, enabling developers to stay in flow while writing, reviewing, and understanding code. Backed by top‑tier investors and trusted by engineering teams at leading tech companies, Augment Code is redefining how modern software is built.

About the Role

As a Research Engineer at Augment Code, you’ll sit at the intersection of research and engineering - transforming cutting-edge ideas into production-ready systems that redefine how developers build software. You’ll design models that understand entire codebases, create the infrastructure to support large-scale experiments, and ship innovations that directly power our Context Engine and developer productivity platform.

In this role you will:
  • Design and implement ML models and algorithms that advance code understanding, code classification, retrieval, and developer productivity.
  • Own projects end-to-end: from ideation and prototyping to optimization and production deployment.
  • Build and maintain research infrastructure, experimentation frameworks, and data pipelines at scale.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to translate research into user-facing impact.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in machine learning, natural language processing, and software engineering research.
You have:
  • Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related technical field (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Deep experience with LLMs, Retrieval Systems, or Post-Training.
  • Strong understanding of modern machine learning techniques (reinforcement learning, transformers, etc).
  • Experience with large-scale data processing, training, and model deployment.
  • Proficiency with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
While not required, it’s an added plus if you also have:
  • Contributions to open-source projects or publications in relevant fields.
  • Background in developer tools, IDEs, or software engineering productivity systems.
Employee Benefits:
  • Flexible work hours
  • Competitive salary & Equity
  • Tools Stipend
  • Health, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance
  • Short Term and Long Term Disability
  • Unlimited Paid Time Off + Holidays. We focus on trust and ownership, not time in the chair
  • Numerous company social events

We will do everything we can within reason to make sure that your interview takes place in an environment that fairly and accurately assesses your skills. If you need assistance or accommodation, please contact your recruiter.
