Job Description

Your Career

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Component Engineer to join our exciting, fast growing company and reports to the Director of Component and Manufacturing Engineering. This experienced individual will provide component engineering support for all Palo Alto Networks hardware products.  Working in a highly collaborative environment with Supply Base Managers, Hardware and Software Engineering, Technical Operations team and our suppliers, this individual will contribute to component and major sub-assembly selection and qualification for our industry leading security solutions. 

This role is 5 days/week in our HQ, Santa Clara, CA.

Your Impact

  • Strategic planning; sees the big picture. Understand implications of activities/issues on all areas of company.

  • Translates component knowledge into product and supplier requirements.

  • Utilize quality metrics in developing, monitoring and improving operational objectives.

  • Solid collaboration, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, specifically Kepner-Tregoe framework. 

  • Ability to analyze and make critical decisions with minimum data.

  • Ensure supplier technical roadmap and capability alignment with Palo Alto Networks’ product roadmap.

  • Drive and lead early engagement with Engineering to deliver best solutions for PANW products.

  • Collaborate closely with the Supply Base Managers in selection, qualification, approvals, changes and additions to the AML.

  • Identify and qualify alternate component sources to minimize risk in the supply chain and to support cost reduction and quality improvements.

  • Monitor component quality over a broad range of technologies in manufacturing and the field; drive component manufacturers to root cause and corrective action implementation and verification. Be the technical point person for component quality/performance issues.

  • Review supplier Part/Product Change Notifications (PCN), End of Life notifications (EOL) and determine product impact.

Qualifications

Your Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with deep understanding of digital logic fundamentals.

  • 10+ years progressive and proven experience in Component Engineering. Experience in Field Application Engineering is a huge plus.

  • Demonstrated broad technical competence in multiple technologies (ASIC, FPGA, Comm IC, Processor, SSD) with expert level experience in one or more area is required.

  • Proven knowledge of failure mechanisms in semiconductor and system level component interaction and assemblies over a wide range of technologies.

  • Demonstrated technical and operational problem solving and solution implementation skills in a complex, highly interactive environment with a proactive attitude.

  • Working knowledge of industry best practices for component and product level qualification and design verification testing (DVT practices, HALT, HASS, etc.).

  • Experience in partnering with multiple industry leading EMS and OEM/ODM providers.

Compensation Disclosure

The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. For candidates who receive an offer at the posted level, the starting base salary (for non-sales roles) or base salary + commission target (for sales/commissioned roles) is expected to be between $124000 - $201500/YR. The offered compensation may also include restricted stock units and a bonus. A description of our employee benefits may be found here.
