Location: San Francisco, CA, or New York City, NY
The Role: This position is part of our Borrow organization, which includes our Personal Loans, Student Loan Refinance, In-School Student Loans, and Home Loans businesses. This role is about both managing two amazing researchers and, at least for now, rolling up your sleeves and conducting research yourself. You’ll collaborate closely with business leaders, product marketers, product managers, designers, and engineers to conduct exploratory, formative, and evaluative research studies, empowering stakeholders to make informed, confident decisions and mentor and coach a team doing the same.
What You'll Do:
- Lead and Develop: Manage a group of talented researchers, fostering excellence and growth through mentorship, coaching, and skill development
- Conduct Great Research: Work with stakeholders to identify, drive, and execute impactful research across the organization
- Drive Research Excellence: Help improve our processes to raise the bar on our work quality, ensuring impactful outcomes that drive our objectives forward
- Engage Stakeholders: Build strong stakeholder relationships, ensuring alignment on key questions and research priorities to address critical needs
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner closely with Business, Design, Product, Marketing and Engineering teams to integrate research efforts into our product development lifecycle
- Actively help shape the direction of both SoFi and the Research team
What You'll Need:
- 8+ years of experience in Research, at least 3 as a formal people manager
- Strong expertise in coaching, performance management, and team member development
- Command of a broad set of quantitative, qualitative, and user-centered methods
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to synthesize and communicate ideas visually, verbally, and in writing to all levels, including senior leadership and executives
- Experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Familiarity with research tools such as Qualtrics, Marvin, dScout, etc.
- Nice to have - SQL, R, Python experience
- A degree in Design, HCI, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Anthropology, or a related field is considered an advantage
- Bonus: Domain expertise in personal finances
