Overview:

The Senior Risk Analyst will support, and report, to the Segment Risk Manager responsible for Finance and Regulatory Reporting Oversight (“FRRO”) Analytics.  The FRRO team is responsible for performing effective review and challenge activities, primarily related to capital management, planning and forecasting, capital interpretations, capital calculations, Resolution Planning and FED and FDIC regulatory reporting. The Senior Risk Analyst will work closely with M&T’s Capital Planning team along with other stakeholders across the Finance and Risk functions of the bank in support of the ongoing evaluation of M&T’s capital adequacy and governance.  The candidate will develop and enhance analytical tools to support the review and challenge of capital adequacy and will support the function’s evaluation of conformance with existing and proposed capital regulations.  In addition, the role will support the independent review and challenge of selected regulatory reporting requirements and the pro forma financial statements and other required information and analyses to be provided in connection with M&T’s 2025 Resolution Plan submission. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the performance of effective independent review and challenge activities across a wide scope of capital planning, monitoring and governance activities.
  • Collaborate across functions in the compilation and analysis of financial and capital projections both on a business-as-usual (BAU) basis and in connection with stress testing exercises, with a focus on Pre-Provision Net Revenue (PPNR), Credit Losses and Risk-Weighted Assets (RWA).
  • Support the successful completion of projects to enhance the analytical capabilities of the FRRO function along with other strategic initiatives and targeted process improvements.
  • Utilize analytical tools to conduct research and analysis of industry and peer bank data, provide insight on regulatory updates and best practices.
  • Assist with regulatory exams, responses to regulatory requests, feedback and Internal Audit exams/reviews.
  • Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned

Scope of Responsibilities:

The Senior Risk Analyst must be adept at working across all levels of the organization from junior staff to the Chief Risk Officer or other senior/executive members of management primarily in Risk and Finance.  This is a high-profile position where the incumbent must be a comfortable working with minimal/moderate oversight under tight deadlines.

Education and Experience Required:

MBA with outstanding academic credentials, minimum two years work experience or BA/CPA/CFA with three-plus years experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Superior interpersonal and leadership talent. Advanced analytical abilities.

Education and Experience Preferred:

MBA, CPA or CFA with outstanding academic credentials. Prior experience in Banking industry Capital Planning, Treasury, Risk Oversight, Regulatory Reporting, CCAR, Stress Testing or other Finance functional role.  Experience in working with large data sets.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $97,869.52 - $163,115.87 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
