Reddit is growing fast, and the Privacy and Risk Security Engineering Team is scaling up alongside the rest of the organization. As part of this growth, we're seeking an Information Security Engineer with a deep focus on Privacy to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to make an outsized impact on a highly skilled and motivated team while playing a direct role in protecting Redditor data.

This position involves heavily hands-on coding, working to build, scale, and refine a Python and Go-based framework. The role requires someone who thrives on designing and implementing solutions, writing clean and maintainable code, and continuously improving our technical capabilities in the privacy, risk, and compliance space.

We’re looking for humble experts who are relentlessly resourceful, entrepreneurial, and driven by a “can-do” attitude. You’ll work with the latest technologies, and focus on delivering real-world solutions that enable Reddit to manage risk more effectively without sacrificing user privacy. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, Policy, and Trust & Safety teams to deliver robust technical solutions that meet privacy and compliance standards while allowing Reddit to scale safely.

Location: US remote-friendly

What You’ll Do:

  • Daily hands-on coding in Python and Go, building, scaling, and refining a framework for privacy and compliance
  • Design, build, and implement scalable technical solutions that enable privacy, compliance, and data protection by design and by default
  • Translate privacy and compliance rules into robust, reusable solutions that protect users and advertisers while enabling safe, transparent use of data
  • Integrate privacy by design into every stage of the software development lifecycle, including system architecture, development, and testing
  • Work cross-functionally with Legal, Policy, and Trust & Safety teams to translate compliance requirements into actionable product specifications
  • Continuously iterate and optimize our technical systems to meet evolving data privacy requirements and regulatory mandates

What We Can Expect From You:

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience working with privacy, security, compliance, and assurance policies within the software development lifecycle
  • 3-5 years of hands-on coding experience building clean, maintainable, and well-tested code in Python, Go, or other relevant languages (e.g., Java, JavaScript/TypeScript)
  • Proven expertise in building and scaling large-scale systems, with a focus on privacy, risk, or data governance projects
  • Knowledge of SDLC best practices and cloud technologies related to analytics and storage
  • Comfortable navigating unfamiliar tech stacks and experimenting with new languages and technologies
  • Strong understanding of privacy by design principles, data protection, and cryptography
  • Experience working with data privacy regulations such as CCPA, GDPR, and state data breach laws
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with an emphasis on coding and technical solution delivery

  • Excellent communication skills, able to simplify complex topics and be a thought leader within the team
  • Strong attention to detail and an ability to prioritize competing tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • A team-focused attitude with a strong client service orientation

In addition to base salary, this job is eligible to receive equity in the form of restricted stock units, and depending on the position offered, it may also be eligible to receive a commission. The base pay range for this position is:

$190,800$267,100 USD
