We are seeking an experienced and strategic a Staff Web Experience Engineer to own and evolve the Slack online experience for developers. You will play a critical role in shaping how developers interact with our platform online, ensuring a seamless, informative, and engaging journey across all our web properties. This role involves maintaining and enhancing core sites like slack.dev, developing innovative AI-powered tooling, managing essential infrastructure, and driving initiatives to unify our overall web presence.

Responsibilities:
  • Own and Enhance Core Web Properties: Lead the maintenance, enhancement, and potential re-platforming of slack.dev (currently WordPress).

  • Optimize Content Publishing: Streamline and enhance the tools, infrastructure, and processes for content contribution and deployment to slack.dev, significantly reducing time-to-publish for content creators.

  • Drive Web Property Unification: Lead initiatives to consolidate online resources and create a cohesive, seamless experience across properties like slack.dev, docs.slack.dev, and tools.slack.dev, potentially involving platform consolidation and migrating sites.

  • Manage Web Infrastructure & CI/CD: Oversee and improve the CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions) and underlying infrastructure for our documentation sites, slack.dev, AI tooling, and other web properties.

  • Develop Web Accessible AI Tooling: Build and integrate AI-driven tools to improve developer enablement and productivity, such as custom MCP servers/clients, code generation tools, enhanced search, and AI-assisted support features.

  • Improve Developer Experience (DX): Implement improvements based on developer needs and journeys, focusing on effective onboarding, reducing clicks-to-action, and integrating interactive experiences.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and other stakeholders to ensure web properties and experience accurately reflect platform features, align with company goals, and support integration efforts.

  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Identify and implement technology improvements, champion best practices, and mentor other team members.

Competencies:
  • 8+ years experience in software engineering with a focus in web development.

  • A related technical degree required.

  • Expertise in Web Technologies: Deep understanding and hands-on experience with modern web development stacks (potentially including PHP, JavaScript frameworks, static site generators, etc.). Experience migrating or re-platforming complex websites.

  • Infrastructure & DevOps: Proven experience managing CI/CD pipelines, hosting infrastructure, and related tooling (e.g., GitHub Actions, Docker, cloud platforms).

  • AI/ML Interest or Experience: Familiarity with or strong interest in applying AI/ML concepts to enhance web experiences and developer tooling. Experience with RAG architectures is a plus.

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to understand the broader developer journey and translate needs into web strategy and technical solutions.

  • Project Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross-functional web projects from conception to completion.

  • Collaboration & Communication: Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with diverse teams and senior leadership.

  • Developer Focus: Strong understanding of developer needs, workflows, and online communities.

Bonus Points:
  • Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) like WordPress and headless architectures.

  • Experience managing documentation websites.

  • Familiarity with Slack and Salesforce platform development.

  • Experience with web analytics, SEO, and data-driven optimization.

Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance and the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring, Salesforce will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.

For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $162,600 to $268,900.

For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $177,600 to $293,900.

Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, benefits.
