To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for an exceptional and experienced Back-End Software Engineer to join our Growth team. This role will contribute to various parts of our back-end infrastructure responsible for communication with users through email and in product messaging. The Back-End Software Engineer will work with product managers and marketing leads to translate business requirements into technical tasks.
Grammarly’s engineers and researchers have the freedom to innovate and uncover breakthroughs—and, in turn, influence our product roadmap. Your impact
As a Back-End Software Engineer on the Growth team, you’ll make a significant impact on improving writing outcomes for millions of users and help drive business metrics by building systems that showcase the value Grammarly offers. You will design, develop, and release new back-end features as well as exploring new services to power up functionality. You will work very closely with product managers, marketing leads, and data scientists, as well as other engineers across the organization, to improve our messaging capabilities and integrate them seamlessly with our product offerings.
In this role you will:
- Work on projects that directly impact key business metrics.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across Marketing and Product teams, as well as with engineers working on various applications and interfaces.
- Own the existing email infrastructure responsible for sending millions of emails covering hundreds of use cases.
- Provide effective code reviews.
- Help improve the development, testing, and release processes for our infrastructure.
- Prepare plans to consistently achieve results and execute against timelines with predictability.
We’re looking for someone who
- Embodies our EAGER values—is ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable.
- Has at least 3 years of experience in back-end development using Java and/or Scala.
- Has some experience with AWS products or other cloud offerings (GCP, Azure, etc.).
- Has experience working on fast-paced teams.
Bonus points for
- Experience with Terraform.
- Experience working with messaging queues like RabbitMQ.
- Having worked on data pipelines using Spark and Airflow.
- Experience working with email service providers (e.g. Salesforce Marketing Cloud)
